SAAFL are about to sign a deal to re-name Thebby Oval, Adelaide Airport Ltd Oval.

4 year deal, how much would this be worth?

The way the SAAFL is run, should be named after another aviation business "SAAFL Tiger Airlines Oval"

Rightio lads if you were running a footy club of whom was financially well off and the Adelaide Airport came to you and offered lets say 30k to rename your oval for 4 years what would you say? Keep in mind if you say no 99% of the population would call you an idiot...

actually, no.

Im sure if a huge company came to you and said we'll give you X amount to put our name on your oval, I'm sure Plympton would jump at it.

Cant say I'm a fan of re-naming ovals either FWIW, I still call it Footy Park - but if it raises money to reduce our calls.....

That's not entirely comparing apples with apples. Of course any club would say yes to that deal. You would be mad not to. But will more revenue to the league see our calls come down, or any of the fines reduced? I doubt it

Why would they reduce fines? it's like saying the council has made a massive profit, so they're reducing the cost of parking fines

Whether it will bring down our calls, probably not immediately, however once the lighting is up and there is outside revenue coming in there may be a change.

who besides the budget/directory's actually calls any of these ovals by their sponsors name anyway??

i know i still call footy park just that, aswell as Norwood oval or richmond!

quit bagging the SAAFL for raising $$$ outside of the clubs and realise that you are part of the SAAFL and that it will help you (your club) in one form or another

As soon as the council see the SAAFL is profiting more from the oval i have know doubt the council will up the rates to get their fair share.

How so?? The league has bills just like all clubs do and they have to pay them just like our clubs.
The argument of what do we as clubs get back for the bills we pay is pointless because what as players do we get back from our subs we pay to our clubs....maybe some tape and a pair of shorts @ some generous clubs. Might also save 50c on each beer we buy.
I'd rather see the league in a situation where they can build and develop an oval with a large portion of their own profits than see them scraping the barrel. Running 60+ footy clubs would not be the easiest of things to acheive especially in current economic conditions.
However I don't agree with playing any finals @ SANFL grounds, waste of cash especially when you have great grounds such as Thebarton, Salisbury, Kenilworth, Kilburn, Campbeltown ect that can host finals and give electric atmospheres. My opinion only.

We as players get to keep our football club alive and play the game we love every week from paying our subs. What more could you want? Most of that money goes to the league anyway. Let's not forget we also have to pay for goal umpires, boundary umpires and field umpires, on top of the calls.

The league still gets its money from the clubs regardless of the economic conditions. Its harder for the clubs to raise that money when things are getting tighter and tighter, but its not any harder for the league to collect it from us. They certainly are not "running 60+ footy clubs" like you said. They don't run ours.

Let it be known that I'm all for them getting extra revenue from elsewhere and I think its great. Just as long as its put to good use! Lower calls is only one thing that could help all the clubs. I just hope they don't waste the $$ on something like a book that no one wants...

Agreed, it is good news the league is looking at alternative revenue streams that will hopefully take some of the burden off of the clubs as long as the use the funds sensibly!

Sponsors are getting harder to find, they want and deserve a return on their investment.

I know of one Division 1 club that has sponsorship totalling over 100k.

Now if they spend half of that on admin costs where does the other half go. Assuming that that figure does not include player fees
