SAAFL Division 8 & D8R (2012)

Postby The Riddler » Mon Nov 14, 2011 4:43 pm

After much speculation and talk about having this division over the years rumour has it that it may become a reality as soon as next season with plans already drawn up at head office with teams listed in it.

Apparently it will have 8 teams in it and will be part of the relegation/promotion system and consist of only C & D Grade teams from the 'C' grade comps meaning that set up may change also .

I would assume all would have to be passed at the AGM before it would be approved but by all reports SAAFL is pretty keen to get it done. Like I said only a rumour but it's getting stronger by the day.

Thoughts?

i think its a good idea... any chance of getting a list of sides who would be in this comp?

I think it may be under lock and key at headquarters but here's the current list of teams with 2 sides competing in the 'C' grade competition at the moment

Adelaide Uni
Flinders Park
Gepps Cross
Golden Grove
Mitcham
Prince Alfred
Salisbury
SMOSH West Lakes

so twould that be uni's 5th and 6th teams? would be a fair drop to go from almost finalist in div 6 to div 8.

it would be the blacks' 5th and 6th sides else other teams c grade sides like henley, tea tree gully, modbury, shoc and uni would come in.
i'd expect gepps to struggle to fill given their forfeits last year in c6 and struggle to get sides in c1.

I would think that we would prefer to have our C and D grade play in the C grade comp, we have guys miss out each week now. If we were here we would then be back to playing just 21 players and would have more miss out. Not that I am in the know however.

i think you would fine that some of the c/d teams in div 7 this year would stay put, because there would be enough teams to fill div 7/8 with ten teams in each grade.

I am not saying we wouldnt be, I just think that at present we can have 50 guys play across our C and D grade each week, we go into this comp and we have 42. It would be a tough comp. I think it may make it more unbalanced than it already is. We would find it tough, we would be up against some good sides and many of them Div 1 and Div 2 sides. I am not dead against it for us but I think that if we had the choice we would choose to stay in the C divisions.

After having a quick chat about it tonight, we would be for the idea, however the issue about being able to 25 in each side is a good point. Hopefully if the league wants to fill the division with C&D Grade sides then the 25 on the team sheet rule stays.

Mitcham had a C and D grade last year? As long as they kept the 25 players in this div I would be for it myself, would be a really tough comp though. I think there is a couple of premiership sides there and a couple of grand final sides in thier respective comps - Flinders Park, SMOSH, Salisbury, Prince Alfred, UNI?? not sure but would be a tough division?

We are contemplating having a D grade for the upcoming season (depending on numbers obviously) and would want them playing before our C grade. Div 8 would suit that.

Be a bloody tough comp though!

Whats this talk about Div 9 , Div 10 etc?

From what I have read Div 8 is talked about being brought in so clubs with a C & D grade can play at the same ground. I would then think that all other teams with a C grade side will remain in the C divisions.

We are in exactly the same boast SD, we would like them to play at the same ground for logistics reasons but I strongly doubt we would be able to compete with the clubs that will play in this division
