Div 1-4 a club can pay to host every one in them divs pays 25 dollars per person on table of 10 people

Div 5-8 samething

C grades I'm not sure as I doubt many people turn up

In the 25 dollars it gets you a meal and a drink seems fair

Saafl makes cash from the club paying to host

Q.

You keep missing the point. It doesn't matter if every winner in history "deserved" it. The thread is about getting people to the night. If the award is perceived to be insignificant due to the votes being given by people who have no idea, then that contributes to those people not turning up.

As for the umpires getting the decisions right most of the time, perhaps in terms of a raw number of decisions, but they'd get anywhere from 20%-30% wrong I reckon. As long as its fair for both sides, you live with it, but when it comes to getting the votes right, you're absolutely dreaming if you think they'd have any idea who half the players they pick (or dont pick) even are. Especially in the reserves.

So why would anyone, given all of the above, and combined with the travel and effort to get there, rock up to such an event? To mingle with other back-slappers? Pass.

I think you're missing the point. Generally, people aren't coming because of the sheer brevity of the count they have a vested interest in, not because of a perceived voting integrity issue.

No, your rebuttal to my point with "but the winner was deserving" was where I meant you're not quite getting it.

Sure, I agree, the lack of relevant and interesting content is absolutely another issue. It's not one single thing but the perception (and as proven, the reality) the umpires have no idea definitely contributes.

I find the Umpires lack of idea amusing and enjoy it.

It also strongly improves my chances of polling

I umpire and at the end of each quarter I write down 3 numbers that stand out and at the end go over my numbers normally is a pattern but in the lower divs old and unfit that's why the quality is poor I use to hate being put with an old guy doesn't run and pays free kicks cause he can't make the play

its an erie (spelling bad) feeling when looking at the votes how only about 10 players in the whole division get over 8 or nine votes. out of about 400 players (average guess) to represent the whole division across the season only about 10, if they attended a medal count, would go home with a little ego boost for the year they had

if the coaches couldnt do a 5 4 3 2 1 then how about the umpires

a minor premier should get to host a count for their div, but i doubt every one would be willing to go to houghton say for div 7

im sure many hotels would volunteer to host a count, that way meals and beverages sold would provide revenue to the pub, but again, would the Smithfield boys or trinity crew be willing to go to say the lockleys hotel for the div 6 count?
