Adelaide Footy League Women's all divisions talk - 2017

Postby Look Good In Leather » Thu Mar 16, 2017 12:29 pm

Noticed some of this talk straying into the Div 4 forum, so it is time for equality :D

*edit* - Thanks LGIL :D - however we've squashed it all down into one thread (for this year anyway) as the traffic won't warrant a thread for each womens division.

As the man said, discuss all things female here!

Not the best advert for our premier women's comp that they only get a 10-game season because 10 players out of the whole comp have to have a mandated six-week break after the AFLW finishes. A fair up yours to the other 150 odd players who have been doing a pre-season at their clubs for a start date of May 28.

Because that clause includes the SANFLW league too

So if you've got 100 girls playing in the SANFL W comp from Feb 11 to April 8 and 18 girls playing in the AFLW comp from Feb 4 to April 1

that means 118 girls can’t play in the Div 1 comp until May 28 under the AFLW rule. (estimated numbers only)

Probably makes sense now... why would you have a competition start on April 15 if no one was allowed to play in it

Right, so is it the SANFL or the AFL we should be thanking for killing off half the season of grass roots female footy clubs, clubs who have done all the work in developing talent at the grass roots level?

Good thinking by those up in an office. Let's try to deepen the talent pool by reducing the amount of matches for girls new to the game.

I put it down to the Mickey Mouse competition of the SANFLW or should that be the Donald Duck competition - second as always.
Why was there a need for a 4 team fly by night rushed at the last minute comp to go ahead when the SAWFL is growing and has strong foundations!!!

That's not the worst of it either apparently, the SANFL now want to get in on the act after discarding the SAWFL comp 3 years ago because it was "too hard" - to now wanting to be the premier womens comp in the state so they are going to suck another 150 to 200 away from the clubs in 2018.

I don't believe the SANFL girls are under the same restrictions as the AFLW ones are. Division 2 will be starting on April 30th and Christies Beach will be selecting our SANFL girls. If the SANFL want to cause issues at club level then good luck having anyone making themselves available in 2018.

what i heard a couple off weeks ago was the AFL have told the AFL clubs and SANFL girls they need six weeks off, some off the clubs that have more players in there local club, these girls are to be split up and divided and spread out to other clubs to make the comp more even.

the AFL don't want clubs sides dominating competitions , the Dragons Girls in Melb who have won 8 straight flags are going into a mini draft, and split up

So i.m thinking this will happen in SA. Morphettville Park have 9 girls in the CROWS, some off these girls have been there for a numbers off seasons, and now told they have to go play elsewhere .... only 2 AFLW PER CLUB ... if TRUE what a joke ...... 10 years off hard work .... in walk the AFL telling ppl where to play.

Also heard the SANFL WILL BE PLAYING in a full season next yr, as the premier comp, directly against the SAWFL .....

So in other words get stuffed grassroot clubs we're running the show now ....

Interesting times ahead .....

CORRECT FC ..... this means clubs like Salisbury, Adelaide Uni, Morphettville Park who have 2 sides will be torn apart down to 1 side.

See Chelsea Randall won the D1 medal playing for Salisbury.

Pretty good reflection on this comp to have the AFLW premiership captain playing and picking up accolades

She won the player voted medal. BnF was won by Rachelle Martin from West Adelaide. Fair effort for someone playing their first year of footy.

Top effort that.

On Chels, she only played 5-6 games due to being away with underage state teams and the like, but was clearly a cut above and has been a wonderful role model for all of our younger girls at the club. Couldn't have fit in any better, a true professional and we are extremely lucky to have her. Can't speak any higher of an individual.

On the SAWFL as a whole, think it's been a great season with so many new clubs entering teams (Gaza, Flinders Uni, EP, North Pines, Strathalbyn, Aldinga, Golden Grove etc). Next step IMO is to try to get a fully-aligned A/B grade comp, I know our girls found it frustrating with the As not being able to watch the Bs and vice versa. Uni/Morphies/Salis/Port/West/Angle Vale/Christies/Lofty etc all have A/B Grade sides and would expand the current six-team Div 1, hopefully at least to a 14-game season. We were lucky enough on one occasion this year to have five games at home on Saturday, C/B/A Grade Men, B/A Grade Women, starting at 10.15 and finishing at 8pm, if this was a bi-weekly occurrence for clubs it would allow the girls to integrate much more easily into the fabric of the club, with the men watching after their games, the women watching the blokes before theirs and all the presos being done together on a Saturday night.

Flinders, Gaza and North Pines all had teams last year but yes has been a good year to be involved with.

You might be able to get Div 1 as a stand alone A/B comp and back to 8 teams depending on what happens with the AFLW / SANFL comps next year, only Modbury doesn't have 2 teams at a quick look. If the mandated break isn't there you could still start in May and finish in September with 8 team Divisions throughout seeing the SANFL comp sounds like finishing around Anzac day. Biggest X factor would be what the SFL are doing with their women's comp if they get it going (maybe they should concentrate on fixing their mens comp first but that's another matter).

So from the ladders would look something like this (expecting new teams to come in next year as well), doesn't look too bad.

Div 1 A/B
Adelaide University
West Adelaide
Morphettville Park
Salisbury
Port Adelaide
Modbury
Angle Vale
Christies Beach

Div 2
Mount Lofty
Greenacres
Mount Barker
Ingle Farm
Flinders University
Gaza
North Pines
Happy Valley (were way too strong for Div 4)

Div 3
Eastern Park Football
Western Suburbs Hawks
Adelaide University C
Morphettville Park C
Ironbank Cherry Gardens
Mount Lofty B
Nairne Bremer United
Kangarilla

Div 4
Strathalbyn
Mount Barker B
Golden Grove
North Haven
Aldinga
