State Aboriginal Carnival

Postby The Big Shrek » Sun Oct 01, 2017 8:17 pm

The state carnival was played at Kilburn this year.

Kaurna won div 2 and Kooniba beat Raukkan in div 1. Bloody entertaining footy and some absolute jets playing. Izak Rankine who played for Kooniba is going to be something special.

Definitely did the SANFL sprint (and won it too), not sure about the AFL one. Can you run it as a non AFL player?

Will go top 2 in next years draft. Jet.

Let's hope his off field behaviour doesn't ruin that though. Definite talent.

Hope I'm wrong, but hoping HBF wasn't specifically about Iz but more that so many talented young lads end up going the wrong way or making silly choices around this age that impact their careers.

Can't see it happening with him but.

The number of South Australians who look set to take the AFL by storm at 16/17 who taper off by 18 is also concerning. For whatever reason a lot of South Aussies seem to hit a development brickwall at the time blokes from particularly Victoria seem to accelerate.

Is it the system? Does the standard slip away? Does an elite level U18's competition need to be explored?

I saw Rankine play in the Knockout Cup final against PAC
You are correct TBS - he is something special
Did a run from half back, bounced 4 times and goaled with a PAC player chasing him all the way
IIRC, he ended up with 4 goals
I asked a mate of mine who was there and is an AFL scout and he reckons he is going to go very early

My personal suspicion is getting it well out of the hands of the SANFL would be beneficial in terms of assisting elite players. Whether this would in turn be beneficial to Australian Rules Football in South Australia I'm unsure

What about the little one right at the start?
Actually, I'm quite impressed with that. I could hardly see the game

I tell you what, Kysaiah Pickett from Raukkan is one to watch.

He's 16, and I don't know if I've ever seen a better talent at that age.
