Friday night games are shit full stop, save it for the younger grades and have the older grades play earlier on a Sunday.

6:30 start: Gotta be there for 5:30, get home, get organised, get going and don't get home until around 9 then have dinner.
7:30 start: The kids can't have dinner beforehand, you can't have a quiet Friday beer or two until you get home around 10ish, then you don't feel like it as you've probably got takeaway on the way home too.

At least the younger groups have shorter games and they can remain local top avoid traveling distances during peak hour near the city.

Payneham quite often has night games, that's a prick of place to get to after 5 pm on a Friday evening.

Agreed. Also with the younger kids being 9-a-side now along with a booming girls league it means more teams and constraints on oval availability.

At least with the younger grades you can knock off 2-3 games at once in under an hour

The SANFL is doing a damn fine job if you ask a parent/coach/volunteer such as myself who has been involved in junior footy for the past 20 years.

The grades are evenly matched, and even more so as they take a step further this season with the amalgamation of north and south, the umpiring is of a good standard, the permits have been harder to get this season as opposed to previous years.

There's a lot to like, if we have to travel, we will, and make a day of it.

Mt Lofty is 15 mins from Glenunga, hardly a big road trip.

Our parents fully supported the move to SANFL despite the travel (our 16.5's have only have Brighton south of the city) as it gives a good competition every week which develops the kids much more than winning or losing big.

Really looking forward to seeing how it all goes.

68 minutes from my house according to Google maps, lets say a 1:20pm match.
11am: Leave home.
12:20pm: Arrive at ground.
1:20pm: Match starts.
3:30pm: Start the journey home.
4:45pm: Return home.

6 hour round trip for a game of footy, that's a fair trip.

I don’t mind the travel but they have to keep in mind when and where.

Friday night from CLG to TTG @ 6;30 stupid
Saturday night CLG to Golden Grove @ 6:30pm no issue

We had an u/18 trial game on the weekend

Game started 1.15
Left home at 10.30 to watch the 16's
got home about 4.00

5 1/2 hour day for a game 15 mins away - sounds ideal to me

I guess I wont be cooking my Sunday Roast on the Mt Lofty game, I wasn't having a full whinge, just saying it's a fair trek.

As there are so many Northern clubs I guess you get used to playing regularly locally. When you have a long trip do you meet at your club and car pool?

I already see we play my old team Lockleys and Eastern Park in the 16.5's who are also red and blue, I presume there is a clash policy of some sort? (or we could grab our A grade clash jumpers on those games)

We're from the north mate, we're lucky if one in five has a car.

In all honesty, we have a pretty good bunch who all get along pretty well, I'd dare say we'd stop in somewhere on the way home from Lofty for feed together or something.

I don't think we'll meet at the club first like we used to when we were kids and had no GPS' or iPhones to get us there.

Under 14 Div. 2
Colonel Light Gardens
Elizabeth
Flinders Park
Hectorville
Henley
Mitcham
Modbury
Mt. Lofty
Pooraka
Tea Tree Gully

That's ridiculous for Under 14 footy.

I preferred to travel than watch my lad's team win by 20 goals one week and lose by 20 goals the next week

U/14's Div 4 Morphettville Park travel to Angle Vale, there closest game to home Seaton
But looking at all grade there's a fair bit off travel for all clubs

SANFL Juniors saying they need 220 mill to spend on extra grounds for growing Juniors playing
While I see this is great that kids are playing our great game there is plenty off room at established clubs.
My club busts its guts every year to attract more Juniors, currently we have for example 15 U/9 kids but another club close by has 56 .....
Now I know the old argument kids want to play with mates
Parents want there kids to play at a successful club
But if your going to get on the radio and big note, remember SANFL juniors there are club that would love to have Junior's in all grades moving through to seniors .... just my thoughts because there are local clubs sometimes not being used .
