I was about 15 20m away and heard the ding - but sheesh, what would I know and the field umpire CAN over ride

I'm not sure about Footy Chick's suggestion that the field umpire may have overruled the goal umpire. I've now seen the footage and it seems to be solely the goal umpires decision to award a goal as soon as the ball went past or possibly snicked the post. Other than the field ump signalling all clear there doesn't appear to be any interaction between the two umpires. Athelstone gave up a 5 goal lead in a fairly low scoring game so that would be just as upsetting for them.

Its a telling sign when all the Athelstone players go straight to pointing at the goal post and all the Unley players are half celebrating but waiting to see what the umpire will do. Never easy to cop a loss like that, especially when its to get into the GF

What was the Athelstone defender thinking as he kicked the ball out on the full right next to the boundary, a bad time for a brain fart.

How did the siren go before the ball was thrown up back in the middle? Shouldn't the clock have been stopped after the goal?
