You may be right but as a player if that is the punishment handed down it says runners aren't untouchable.
If you're willing to sit out a month you can give em one when they're mouthing off.
Which most runners do. Can't hear but my guess thats exactly what happened here.

A month? Well you'd think he would be looking at 6-8 at a minimum.. prob 10 - it's deliberate high contact, impact to be decided.. more than a month.

Not that I want to sound like i'm defending Kershaw either coz he's always been a grub, but what did the runner think was gonna happen running up getting in his face? Nothing good can come from it.

^^^^^^ This...…………….same on a cricket field.

To be honest though I wouldn't be fussed if a rule existed that if an umpires hears a runner direct any words at an opposition player they are automatically sent off and the team has to play without a runner.

I don't buy into the its all part of the game. You are a runner, your job is to run a message to your team and then get the **** of the oval. Aussie rules being one of only few sports where this even exists.

If they want the privilege of being out there send your message and don't say a single word to the opposition, be a player if you want to yap off. One of my biggest pet hates in aussie rules.

Maybe the green card shown was for the runner?

Maybe the runner told the player he didn't like his 80's New Wave music!

Unless that umpire is trying to stay in the country, he has no need for a green card...

It's a trick of the light, it's a yellow card, the shade of them gives a bit of a green tinge.

It appears as though the card was pulled out afterwards as the red card call was reversed.

I loved some verbal by-play with opposition runners. And I didn't manage to ever strike any of them in the head. No harm done. Not the runner's fault old mate couldn't control his emotions.

Would he have done the same if it was a spectator giving him some verbal?

If runners cant abuse oppo players then some clubs would struggle to get a runner. Only reason to be a runner if to sledge everyone

Chad Cornes might as well become a journo ... if he can't sledge opponents....

Who was near the camera that made the comment “You can’t send him off for that” when the umpire was trotting him off?

Insert some 80's bogan who believes "the game has gone soft!"

Deadset Salisbury West is a different breed

If the SAAFL ever let SW back they should all be cut from the committee.

I’ve never seen a club who just refuse to change or even try to. Always the hard done by wankers

I’ve saw a green card a week ago and it was definitely green. My initial thought was, what the hell is a green card. Maybe the league has run out of yellows. :D

Whilst I think the result is justified (10 weeks maybe even a bit light some might say) when Greenies played Lutheran in the Parklands our captain had to ask the umpires to do something about the Lutheran runner who whenever Luthies scored a point would come onto the ground and just hang around filling spaces even being inside the arc on more than one occasion, not sure it's the same guy but maybe the Karma bus was on the move Saturday arvo...just sayn
