They were training last night, Oval looked full but had juniors going as well.

Yeah sad times.

Never good seeing football clubs go under

I like the variety of clubs we have in our league and having points of difference. Smithfield provided that and more.

Hope they sort some stuff out and get back involved in 2023.

How many times can they fight back - must get a little harder each time. Feel sorry for the volunteers out there who pour their heart into it. :(

Yeah its so hard to see the volunteers having another crack.

Only way I can see it happening is a large bunch of the Smitty crew decide to all go back and have a end of career kick with them and then volunteers jump on board to help make it happen.

So sad to see so many passionate smitty lads running around at other clubs in the north whilst Smithfield cant get a team together. I guess its the sign of the times hey.

If the COVID trends continue I think we'll see a lot more clubs going through similar issues, the only way I can see a possible resurgence in the future is if there is scope to have a competition for clubs that can only field the single team.

From what I'm hearing around the traps is that numbers at training have been very poor for this time of year at a lot of clubs.

Realistically Smithfield needed to find 70 players to field two teams comfortably, the ball needed to be well and truly rolling off the field around June last season to try and target the key players that would attract previous players back that had already found comfortable homes.

The sad part about Smithfields demise is out of all the northern suburbs clubs, EP, ELIZ, CU they were situated in the best location for growth with the expansion of Munno Para West, Blakes Crossing etc. Obviously Angle Vale has seemed to be able to attract the majority of that population.

I was speaking to a couple of the Smithfield faithful a couple weeks back and like I said to them, from the outside looking in and now being involved as the footy director down the road not just a player, I feel like the only chance they have of bringing senior footy back within the next year or 2 is to chase down a player/coach who can pull strings to bring back as many of their 0 pointers as possible, use their 15 points on 5 players that may also be able to branch out the year after and try to from there.. depending on who they bring back they could find themselves pretty strong again as some of the 0 pointers that have come out of there have been top end players at whatever club they are currently at!

If they wait to long, all these blokes will have retired and it will be a long time before their juniors play a decent level of senior footy as they haven’t had juniors for so long! Very tough situation to be in as they’ve got a lot of good people involved at the club, hoping to see them back at it within the next year or 2!

In other news, I heard Greenacres had an impressive hit out against Para Hills in their trial.
