A lot of non football families moving into the area, soccer is booming! Three of those four sides really let their Juniors slip away, Salisbury West the exception but we are all aware fo those circumstances, hence why Smithfield have a good chance to 'survive'

However Smithfield, Para Hills, Ingle Farm and Salisbury last year were looking VERY shaky and all 4 clubs will need a string start to the season to build momentum and ensure the doors continue to open for the next 20 years!

Sadly, I can't see that ever changing - and not just for the clubs in the North, but overall.

The big clubs seem to be getting bigger, and we have so many clubs in close proximity competing for the same players / families. Every year will continue to be a battle to keep doors open, especially whilst in Div 6 or 7.

The Lodge been in this situation a few times. But they always seem to pull it back together just in time to field their sides.
They wont get the free ticket to 7 this year but have enough good people around to slug out a long year in 6 knowing the glory hunters will come back if they goto 7 next year ;)

DIVISION SIX
2022 grand final: Trinity OS 13.15 (93) d West Croydon 7.6 (48)

AG Bert Medallist: Patrick O’Dea (Marion)

Leading goalkicker: Dom Barilla (Trinity OS) – 61

Major ins: Shane Harvey (Brighton to Marion), Seb Fairlie (Border Downs Tintinara to Marion)

Major outs: Matt Richards (Greenacres to Gaza)

Clubs: Adelaide Lutheran, Brahma Lodge, Central United, Fitzroy, Greenacres, Marion, Rosewater, Salisbury, Smithfield, St Paul’s OS

Division six will see five new teams in 2023, with promoted sides Greenacres and Adelaide Lutheran joining relegated clubs St Paul’s OS and Salisbury as well as Smithfield, which returns after two years on the sidelines.

Marion could be the team to beat this year after adding former Marion star Shane Harvey to its midfield and also acquiring Border Downs Tintinara gun Seb Fairlie, while Central United and Greenacres should also be sides to watch after strong 2022 seasons.

THREE BIG PREDICTIONS

Rams run rampant

Marion has bolstered its side significantly after just missing an opportunity for promotion last season and should be one of the powers in the division this season as they launch their strongest bid for a premiership in years.

Harvey takes medal

A premiership player during his time at Brighton, midfielder Shane Harvey should have a major impact upon return to his junior club in Marion.

Expect him to dominate out of the middle and lead the Rams to contention.

Gibson leads goals tally

Matt Gibson booted 100 goals for Greenacres in season 2022 (including finals) and should come close to that mark again this year with the Dragons retaining most of their attacking weapons ahead of round one.

PREDICTED LADDER

1. Marion
2. Central United
3. Greenacres
4. Salisbury
5. Rosewater
6. Brahma Lodge
7. Fitzroy
8. Smithfield
9. Adelaide Lutheran
10. St Paul’s OS

PLAYERS TO WATCH

MATT GIBSON (Greenacres)

Another 100-goal player in the Adelaide Footy League last season, Gibson was the main force in Greenacres’ undefeated year and should produce yet another exciting campaign in 2023.

SHANE HARVEY (Marion)
Harvey had fallen out of the A Grade rotation at Brighton before joining Marion and will be hungry to win a premiership with the Rams.
A dominant midfielder who has premiership experience from his Bombers days, Harvey will be one of the most skilled in the division.

He won’t be much of a worry, average player in d7. Cheap kicks all day, won’t ever find him putting his head over the ball.

Big round of games this week - Smithfield and Rosewater square off, one of these sides will get their first win for the season and give themselves breathing space from the relegation zone.

Greenacres and Fitzroy face off each undefeated, whilst Salisbury also undefeated will play Units.

You'd have to think Adelaide Lutheran and Marion will easily account for Brahma + St Pauls.

After this round, could well have 3 sides undefeated, 2 sides on 3 wins, 2 sides on 2 wins and 3 sides winless.

Percentage will begin playing an important part moving towards the middle part of the year.

Greenacres and Adelaide so far well positioned to move up to D5 - it's been a while since they've been up there - 2017 for Greenies and 2015 for Luthies.. also on that, great to see Greenacres field a C grade! Been an eternity since they've had a 3rd team,

Wouldn’t see too many times where the top 4 are all 4-0 after 4 rounds.

Ladder after Round 4
8 - Adelaide Lutheran
8 - Greenacres
6 - Marion
6 - Salisbury
6 - Fitzroy
--------------------------
4 - Central United
2 - Rosewater
0 - St Paul's OS
0 - Brahma Lodge
0 - Smithfield

Round 5
Brahma Lodge v Marion
Central United v Adelaide Lutheran
Fitzroy v Salisbury
Rosewater v Greenacres
St Paul's OS v Smithfield

Hmm interesting division, match of the round for me isn't Fitzroy v Salisbury, but rather Central United v Adel Luth.. The 6th placed Units have a big task against the undefeated Luthies, but need to win to stay tight with the pack, and position well for a proper assault. Are Lutheran actually that good? They've only played the battlers so far - and only won by 10pts to St Paul's OS. Perhaps taken the early speed and about to be chewed in by the pack?

Units have a favourable back end draw with the bottom 4 sides in a 4 week run over Rd 7 to Rd 10 - and then finish the season with 3 games against lower ranked sides.

Greenacres are flying, expect them to turn the break at worst 7-2, but fair shot to be 9-0 and eyeing a return to D5 since 2017.

Greenacres definitely beatable after seeing them first hand on the weekend, pulled away midway through the last on the weekend after Fitzroy jumped them early in the 1st. Slowly pegged us back before getting away, game was predominantly played between the 40m arcs with both backlines on top, rather physical too and don't mind getting on the lip. Will be interesting to see how they handle losing if it happens.
Looking at the Bgrade Fitzroy seem to have more depth with the guys that were missing from the Agrade and still won comfortably.
