Northern Suburbs Football League (SA)

by Information HWY » Sun May 05, 2024 12:53 pm

Purely for discussion - with clubs in the North facing similar issues, is it time to go back to the days of the CDFA/NMFL and follow the lead of the Southern FL in southern Adelaide?

Clubs facing similar resourced, local rivals with less travel and the ability for junior sides to stay local may assist football in a heartland area of SA that struggles in recent years. SANFL and local Councils can assist with the inevitable culture issues that emerge with local clashes week in, week out!

Again, food for thought!

It's very apparent right now that there isn't enough players to go around the clubs that are left in the North now, without resurrecting extinct ones

3 or 4 of the clubs on that list struggle to hold 2 teams together as it is

there's only 2 pros to resurrecting any kind of northern league

1) less travel for those that live beyond GJ Road. and

2) We can get rid of the Tossers  ;)

Keep in mind that parts of the Northern Suburbs are the fasted growing areas in SA/all of Australia - these include people that will play at a club that can show a way forward, have a good culture and foster juniors to flow through the pathways.

Imagine a Smithfield/Munno Para/Andrews Farm club rebranded to lose some baggage, integrating the massive African population into their sides - these guys are athletic marvels, but would only work with a lot of of commitment and some SANFL resourcing

What would happen to the C grade comp? Only 5 clubs can field more than 2 sides in that mix and one of them forfeited yesterday…

I think you would find some people would come out of the woodwork if they knew they were going to compete on a somewhat level playing field. Good luck to Elizabeth recruiting anyone at the current time.

That’s the exact attitude that’s causing a lot of these problems now.

That is funny, Smithfield is the oldest club out of any of them listed.

It's not the lack of players to go round, it's when clubs make poor decisions they struggle.

Quite aware - the areas around Smithfield are exploding (Andrew’s Farm, Blakeview, etc.) but ‘Smithfield FC’ carries baggage whether anyone likes it or not!

“Northern Panthers” or similar wouldn’t be the worst move in the world, along with strategy and resources to go along with it.
