SAAFL Div 5 (2007)

Postby Punk Rooster » Tue Nov 21, 2006 9:10 am

Which teams are in Div 5? I know Fitzroy are, be interested to know who else is confirmed.
Also, Fitzroy will have a new club jumper next year (reverting back to the classic)

Does anyone know anything about Simon Croucher (Kenilworth) who is apparently taking on the coaching role in 2007?

Central United will do better than 2nd bottom, probably a fair bit better. Greenacers might struggle this year. Change of coach and perhaps some players leaving.

those teams werent my predictions for next season. just naming the teams for div 5. But yes stan i agree central utd will be strong going on last yrs form. Elizabeth i think will be the one who should be pushing for promotion this yr- thats if they still have Halliday- they are a great side with him, not so good without. And of course fitzroy and lutheran should be good after comin down form div4.

Pretty certain Halliday will stay on - although I do know he's considering 'retiring'. I also know he's had approaches from other clubs (he gets them every year).

Not so sure about Fitzroy and Lutheran next year- the latter might be ok as they had good depth, but Fitzroy struggled with numbers all year. They had no C grade and their B grade was full of blokes pulled out of retirement. Both sides were a fair way off the mark in Div 4. Really hope Fitzroy can get their act together, not a bad bunch of blokes.

Fitzroy fielded an A,B & C's- however, after R1 they had something like 22 players on the injured list (or at some stage). Not all were footy injuries, but injuries just the same. They had to drop their C grade, & at some stages of the year, struggled to get a full B grade side on the park. An extrordinary year for injuries to say the least.
15 new recruits to the club, & talk of fielding a C grade side, so the future is looking a damn sight better than the past.
Also, 1 of the recruits is a very handy ruckman- I should know, I signed him!

15 new recruits!!! Thats a hell of alot for this time of year. Many things can happen between now and round one. Sounds like a step in the right direction though. Did a whisper that you were losing B Hart to North Haven - did come from a Haven bloke though, so i was sceptical. Is it true Haven's new coach is your an old Fitzroy coach? Could you lose players to them?

Yeah, I actually signed 2 myself (the other is an unknown quantity, played U16's for Glenelg, the other played for an A1 club this year, rucked in their B grade).
As for B Hart- his family virtually run the club, so hell would freeze before that happened, besides, he was at the club on Sunday for the 1st official get together of the year- probably more "wishfull thinking" on your mate's part!

navy 2005 simon croucher will be very good for the kookas, he has previously played in the country leagues, joined the club this year to play with his brother but in the first trial game of the year he hurt his knee, will attract some players to the club.

My mail is that Elizabeth sacked their coach without reason ( they literally wouldnt give him one) and have picked up ex kersbrook coach for season 2007. Eliazabeth coach understandably not happy jan, and last heard may go out to Trinity...

Haven't heard that one Falcon.
It was Keith Hooker who coached this year wasn't it?

I do know that Wayne Hughes is coming back, and he's bringing a bunch of players with (interestingly - many have Trinity connections).

I should be able to find out the story from both Elizabeth and Trinity angles this week - as I'll be seeing people high up in both clubs at the cricket Friday.

Had Hooker as a Development Squad coach a few years back at Centrals, wasn't a bad bloke. Gave a bit to Elizabeth as a player before he went to South Gawler, and to finish thrid after being promoted isn't a bad effort I wouldn't think...
