How many people have heard of this new concept for pre season this year? What are your thoughts? positives? negatives? etc.

The 6 teams competing are Blackwood, Meadows, Happy Valley, Cove, Edwardstown and Reynella. All matches r on friday and saturday nights under the new happy valley oval lights.
2 x 20 minute halves, rewards for high scores, 16 on 16 players with 6 on bench, cash rewards for top 3 i think.

Kicks off Feb. 9

I don't mind the innovation, but don't guys go as hard as possible over a 120 minute game anyway? With cricket, obviously the shorter game means they can hit out more knowing that they 10 wickets for only 20 overs, but I don't see guys pulling out of contests (or football's equivalent of leaving a good delivery) because they might have another 80 minutes of the game to go and they need to save themselves. I don't see how the game will differ all that much.

The carnival idea isn't a bad one for pre-season though, the Loxton version works a treat too aparantly.

players don't go flat out for the 120 minutes though, here they will be able too. I like the concept. Great idea.

Was just thinking outside the square a little with this one. As an ex player (to old and fat) wouldnt it be good to have something like this played on a week night for us older guys.

less taxing on the body still a lot of fun and a way of keeping fit.

I have heard of indoor footy but not sure if its still going in Adelaide and superrules is played on a sunday which for us with families etc makes it hard.

But would be great to be about to head out on weeknight and have a kick and a catch.

An excellent concept. Thoroughly enjoyed watching the games last Friday night. Would like to see the Phantoms adopt a similar concept once their lights have been revamped. Either as a pre-season competition, post season competition or in season mid-week competition.

Is that the old Wunkar Carnival or is it different all together?

Loxton took the concept over from Wunkar.

Wunkar's was a great carnival - real country footy with a real party atmosphere. Enjoyed going out there for it.
I remember Ironbank being there a few times.

Loxton's carnival is the same, but different.
Two ovals makes more room for more teams, and for some teams it's easier to come to as accommodation is just around the corner rather than a 20 minute drive.

But...they're missing out on some of the great times Wunkar provided!

Accomodation!!!! Our whole club camped in the scrub behind the goals at Wunkar for a couple of years!! Bloody good fun

Ahhh but the gilt edged A1 clubs don't like that....lol

I remember a Thunderer sleeping on the oval or more precisely on a sprinkler point on the oval. The result was a blood curdling scream at 4 am.

I also have memories of the midnight running of the nude gift and the dance of the burning bush, all courtesy of Ironbank.

Ironbank boys are party animals!

When I was playing for Loxton, we crossed paths when both teams were returning from a footy trip at Swan Reach Hotel.

A loxton player - who you'd know well Supa - was doing dick tricks, when an Ironbank player announced he'd outdo him. The fellow flopped his old fella out - got a team-mate to spin the chocolate wheel and stopped it with his old fella....crazy scenes!
