Its relaitvely easy DW, leave a few to do a lot. When a few leave no-one knows what to do.
Rossies have been slack, there money has dried up and they have'nt looked after there sponsors.
They have a long history but they need to pull there heads in and become way more professional.

Boys mark my words, without money clubs sink. There are only so many juniors going around. With the state of footy there is no loyalty and everyone wants a premiereship.

Obviously all that makes sense. It's just not something you expect from a Div 4 club. You expect them to drop back through the divisions and have a gradual slide before you get to this point.

how ever many years ago (prob bout 10-12 ) rosewater very strong juniors
all of a sudden portland formed from 3 clubs and to their credit (smart) choose the port power design for the guernsey
best decision they made
all the young fella's from the area want to play in what guernsey???
definitely not a western bulldogs
so hence rosewater juniors are virtually non existant (think they go to under9's) and portlands are strong.
also previous coach has put all eggs in 1 basket and people moved on
after 4 years of just buying players
the true club guys get f*cked off and walk while the ones there for money now gone also!

Some good points Bradman, but i cant see how Portland forming can be the main reason for Rosewater's demise. When Portland were formed, 3 clubs became 1, which, in reality, meant there were 2 less local clubs to compete with. I agree, using a Power-like jumper was a smart move, but Rosewater should have been pro-active at the time. In fact, if i remember correctly, Rosewater actually gained a few players when Portland were formed (disgruntled players from the clubs involved in the merge). IMHO, the number one reason Rosewater is stuffed IS Rosewater - you cant throw money around forever without it eventually catching up with you. Maybe some of the clubs that have been mentioned on this site recently should take note.

but as the years go by the juniors who were 6-10 at the time all wanting to play in a power guernsey are now 18 -22
whats the ave age of your squad at the moment at portland?
think you underestimate the success of your past commitee in making the decision they did
not that much money got thrown around in comparison to what im hearing now from other clubs

the game went from 2 games to 6 quarters to 4 quarters
golden grove running around with 35 -40 players while rosewater had 22

Average age at Portland would be 20-22. I agree that Portland's junior programme has had an impact on Rosewater, as it probably has on North Haven too. I dont under estimate the work done by our club either, although alot of people out there do. My point is that by blaming another club for Rosewater's problems is letting the decision makers at Rosewater off the hook.

think it is player numbers
as i said they burnt the club locals with paid players etc and now they all walked
they just have not had time to recruit cos evryone had been stitched up when the new coach come in
when mcpherson walked so did 10 or so players back to woody sth and the like
dont get me wrong it could be run alot better (not that i have seen it for few years)
and yes they have made some stupid decisions

Rosewater have had a bad culture for many years now. 15 years ago they were very good, with blokes like Ormond Allen, The Cockatoo Collins boys, Webber, Duffett , Darcy Star, Vinnie Rugolo, malcolm Greenwood etc, but slowly these players left the club.
They have made some bad mistakes with money in recent years, and also the coaches they have employed have turned out to be a mad move.
Rosewater has a terrible reputation, and with that reputation its hard to attract new players to the club, hense they have 22 rock up for a trial of two games.
What were they like to play against last year Felch?

To be honest WAT, ive never had any problems playing against Rosewater, in fact ive always looked forward to it. With Portland and Rosewater being just down the road from each other, a rivalry has always existed and its always been pretty keen. Playing against blokes you know well is always interesting too. Last year they were ok, stitched us up twice. We had a young team, so it didnt take much for us to get intimidated, which they used perfectly. Nothing too serious eventuated though, it probably ended being a valuable experience for us. I know some other sides have serious issues with them - which once again they use to their advantage. I remember going to watch a final at Rosie's ground a couple of years ago, against Plympton. They had put up posters all around the ground in reference to some anti-Rosewater remarks that Plympton had posted on their website. It really set the scene for a few sparks - it was excellent.
