Best Amatuer side pre-season Comp in the State

Postby Rapper » Wed Apr 04, 2007 2:54 pm

Why doesn't the SANFL setup a pre-season competition for say a $10000 prize with a cost of say $1000 per team to enter. The money could be put back into that league. The competition would be invitation only to teams that have finished in the top two of each league to determine who really is the best team in the state.

I would love to see for example;
Goodwood Saint versus Mount Lofty
Morp Vale or Park versus Willunga.
Jervous v Rostrevor Old Scholars.
Naracourte V Loxton North.

What are everyones thoughts.

Its would also be a great opportunity for the public to see the best of the Country and City.

AFL clubs could see potential draftees and it may boast interest in Country leagues to outsiders.

They could play the comp at big stadium and maybe have the best of SA versus VIC or WA for example.

Heater 31. I agree they are good, but everyteam has their weakness. They proved it by winning from five position. No One thought they would win last year. They had a terrible start from memory. Adelaide Uni where hot favourites along with ROCS.

On the ball. I couldn't remeber which one was the better side but you are right. They have certainly dominated the comp for a while.

You would both a agree that it would be a great comp to watch.

Great idea, money would be a huge bonus for some clubs.
Top 2 from each league automatically entered unless proxy club team takes place ($1000 to enter possibly help with this from home association)
Throw in Footy Park as a venue. (sponsored by SANFL and include player insurance)
Play from AM to PM over 3 days (Oct. Long Weekend)
Possible 2 divs after first year with relegation between so weaker associations get a fair go

In short, very lucrative for all involved.
SANFL can make money back by gold coin gate entry and bar etc

Great celebration of SA Football! Could (I hate to say it so don't crusify me) possibly consider only teams outside of SAAFL.
Once the formats right look at Oz Champs but this sought of thing gets very pricey with the SAAFL State Team already struggling to secure funds to travel interstate for games.

Would work here though for sure Rapper, only thing is SANFL would have to consider breaking even or at a loss for their input rather than concentrate on making huge buckets. Give something back so to speak, just for one weekend!

I reckon the AFL has money put aside for Country Football development. I know that Mount Barker Football Club have looked at building a big stadium with some of it. Dont quote me on that. Thats just a pub story.

Yeah the AFL have country footy grants that club and associations can apply for.
Im not sure something like this would fit but a corporate sponsor would be another thing
Ie Scott's Transport, Bianco's, ABC, SANFL, Each Associations Major Sponsor, Power, Crows etc etc
