Read this in the Paper today, maybe Good News Mike might like to find somewhere else to build his so called "super school" and leave a local footy club that has done quite nicely for itself over the last 50 years well alone?

Footy club fights super school
XANTHE KLEINIG, EDUCATION REPORTER

A SUBURBAN football club is preparing to defend its ground against the possible building of a new super school on its ground.
Kilburn Football Club chairman Phil Martin has called a special meeting of members to discuss a suggestion that the Knights' ground is the perfect location for a merger of Kilburn and Gepps Cross primary schools with Blair Athol kindergarten.

"I have no doubt they won't want a school on our reserve," he said. "We've been on the oval now for 50 years." About 200 club members are expected to meet at 9.30am on Sunday.

The schools have agreed to amalgamate into one of six new super schools planned by the State Government. Mr Martin said the club was concerned that land from the schools, scheduled to close in 2010, would be sold and the new school would be built on the Port Adelaide Enfield Council-owned reserve where the club plays its home matches. A council official had confirmed the ground was being considered. "He said 'we don't have to move, there's enough room for two', but a school that has 380 children, that's a fair size school," Mr Martin said.

An Education Department spokeswoman said the reserve had been suggested by the schools, but no site had been decided on.

Port Adelaide Enfield Mayor Gary Johanson said the site was "too small" for a school.

Councillor Johanna McLuskey said she could understand the schools wanting the site, but that "they can't just say 'we want this now for a school' and turf out the existing club."
