adelaide Universty Football Club - Coach

Postby Blacks130 » Sat Jul 07, 2007 3:10 am

If the unthinkable happens tomorrow and the Blacks lose to the sharks, I suspect Tony Roach will put to the club that he will continue coaching until they 1. are stable within the Div 1 comp wether that be 1 year or two year or 2. there's a general concensus that we have in our midst a "true Uni" man to assume the mantle. If that be the case I will throw out there the enevitable appointment of a bloke that has assumed most roles within our club and while he had a little break from the club in 06, he's back and in fine form, slowly but surely he's re-establishing himself as the King of our club - John Kernahan, ex premiership Player with Blacks in 99, Broadview Premiership player in 93 & 98 not to mention the three losing GF's he played in. State SAAFL coach for 3 years in 2000/01/03. he's rooted around doing every job other than coaching the A's and I think this will be his time - word has it, his frustrations are a boiling point and if it wasn't for his mentor in Roach being in charge he would have well a truly spat the dummy and shifted a few out........ Wait and see. If this does happen, all hell will break loose.

once again, university are not a geographically based club, they are a club from an offshoot of an education institution and a tertiary level one at that. as far as i'm aware, not too many under 8's go to university.

i'm believe that kids should play at a suburban club, preferably in the area that they grow up in to have that social side of things - i also believe that university could generate enough interest among past players to have its own junior sides and remember that many past players of uni are involved in loacl area sides with their kids.. this of course would lead to more problems; in other words if uni had junior sides we'd be accused of poaching kids from their 'local area' clubs, if we don't, we do nothing for the saafl as we don't have junior clubs and just poach 'ready made players'. please decide on what level you would like to sledge uni.

university has many players from interstate and from rural areas that use the club as a way of meeting people. people go to university (the institution not the club) to expand their knowledge and networks, why can't they then decide to play at a different club in order to meet new people? it's a very cloistered attitude suggesting that people should stay at one club for their footballing career.

perhaps the question you should ask, is why do people stay at the football club if the clubs they originally come from are so good?

yes, i'm from university but i've also experienced long term stays at two surburban clubs with strong cultures and i know which club and culture i prefer.

Well i'll tell ya there is no sympathy from Broadview. Spoke to a couple of Tired Tigers the other day. Aparrently last year when Uni's beat the Tigers at Uni in the Centenary game, the supporters were spewing out relegation taunts (as the tigers where battling to stay up at the time), and apparently the Uni players got stuck into a few of the senior players about playing in Div 2 towards the end of the game. Now i know that happens with every club, but seeing as though Broadview will now take over the mantle as longest serving Div 1 club, i would like to be at the return game at Tigerland to see if the favour is returned. Wonder if the Tired Tigers will remind their players that week????

That's one of the ironies of Adelaide Uni's season in that any player that taunted a Broadview player last year is probably sunning himself in Greece at the moment and any Uni player the pulls on the guernsey out at Broadview in a coupke of weeks will have no idea what the Tired Tigers might be refering too as he was probably playing Div 6 this time last year.

Ah well what goes around comes around and it seems it's our turn.

Sharky, can you tell me how to highlight a quote please ?

Usually just click on quote in the corner, then select the paragraph or sentence you want and make it bold using the tool bar upstairs. See how ya go. Point taken re Uni players actually not playing anymore, but like you said, i reckon they will have to deal with a little fire next game.
