Firstly, thanks to all concerned with Gepps Cross for playing the triple header against Uni on Saturday - especially their c1 grade for agreeing to move their home game to University Oval for the day. The day was an enormous success from a university perspective with our c1 team actually being able to watch an a grade game and one that was close and hard all day as we normally play at the same time.
Secondly, the triple header concept seems to have worked across the board - just wondering from those who have played or been involved with one as regards to which format has proved best - evening games? saturday day games? sat evening games? Did the amateur league have this concept in mind with the new c1 - c6 structure? Should clubs look at the possibility of having triple headers at each others home grounds in the same year?

we at kenilworth have done it a couple of times, earlier in the year when we played Adel Lutheran the day went, b grade the A's the the C's played under lights. we are doing it last round when we play them again, the c's start at 10.15, then b's then a's.

Portland have done it quite a few times this year, and it works well. I know Haven have done it with their C graders playing after their A grade, under lights, which is a great idea. They have excellent lighting. Portland's lighting not good enough to do this unfortunately, so we have kept to the Cs starting at 10.15am, Bs at 12.15am and the As at 2.15pm. We had a triple-header on the weekend vs Salisbury, and are having another this week vs Para Hills.

for some reason - and a good one for us as we usually play afternoon games - b's at 10.15 then the c1's at 12.15 then the a grade. Like the sound of playing under lights as well.

We've used the triple-headers with Portland, Para Hills, Mitcham and North Haven and all of them have worked pretty well. Had to shuffle times with North Haven, first time dout there went As and Bs at normal time, C Grade after the As. Second time went Cs at 11, Bs at 1 and As at 3 in a twilight game.

The atmosphere at the ground is a lot better and I'm sure the clubs are reaping the rewards of better bar takings, I know our C Graders have drunk a bit from 12.15 at the end of their game til the end of the A Grade.

think it has to do with the a grade getting the optimum conditions plus there may also be part of the way that clubs can occasionally thank the c grade for playing (i'm guessing) without pay and, for once, have the focus of the club on the c grade.

In our case, a few blokes from our club and from North Haven worked either Friday nights or Saturday mornings and so the 10.15 start wasn't going to work all that well.

I have played in a few triple headers over the years and think it is a great initiative, however beleive they should be predominantly played early in the season before the grounds get too heavy. This is especially a problem if the A grade is the final game and is played on a churned up surface from having 2 full games played prior to it. In saying that I think it is a great reward for the C grade guys to get a reasonable crowd for a change and be able to watch the other two grades.

The SAAFL might have actually come up with a good concept with the C1-C6 comps.

Triple header this Sunday at the SHC Main oval. Over 35s game at 11am with the likes of Chigwidden, Kitschke, Underwood, David Welsby etc then B grade then A grade, SHOC vs Pembroke.

Hope Valley have played a few this year. Against Golden Grove we both played a night game which seemed to work well.

1st time round, A grade played at night. 2nd time round C grade played at night, A's and B's played normal time. It seemed to work well and it's a great money spinner for the clubs involved

what does everyone think about the saafl using league ovals instead of fenced off saafl ovals..seems like using sanfl ovals is taking money away from the saafl clubs that could host these games..any thoughts?

clubs need every cent they can get these days..if saafl ovals are available they should be used imo
