Online commentary GOLD

Postby rod_rooster » Mon Dec 04, 2006 12:13 pm

I know mention has been made a couple of times in other threads but the online commentary team from baggygreen.com have come up with some great comments. If you see any good ones add them to this thread.

From just before:

That's it from me, Martin Williamson, as I head off to try to find a sandwich bar. And now a man who is to lunch what the Atkins Diet is to the bread industry, Will Luke. Don't feel sorry for him either ... he deserves all the abuse we can muster.

Those lads are employed by cricinfo and commentate on most test matches must get bloody boring typing the same crap day in day out.

PS for those that play the online cricket game Battrick here, I have a funny feeling that those boys do as well as some lines of commentary seem to have been borrowed or cut and pasted

"Harmison to take the second over after lunch now, and so he's having a little bowl to the man at mid-on - this is just a warm-up, you understand"

Anderson to Warne, no run, that's fended down, pretty easily, off the back foot as a short one fails, like a disappointing soufflé, to get much rise

It's started again:

2.6 Hoggard to Langer, FOUR, oh and he's laced this! Absolutely creamed it like a big juicy coronary-inducing cream bun through the covers.

Can you please explain what a 'Squidge down the ground' means?" asks Gerard. "I presume it was a shot? I've never heard of the Squidge shot. Is it a cross between the Squirt and the Didge?" Well it's a damn fine question. What is the squidge? It's a drive, certainly, but not a well timed one. A mistimed drive, there you go, that'll do.

10.4 Hoggard to Ponting, 1 run, very well bowled by Hoggard, outside off but equally very well played by Ponting who simply pushes this into the covers and scampers a single. Easy game this batting lark
"He's due to fail" says Ian my-glass-is-always-half-full Botham

The chewing gum has been spat out with disgust by Hayden. Not a happy chap (not at the decision, but at his shot). Here's Ricky Ponting, averaging 59.99. Useful. Only averaging 104 in 2006 though.
10.3 Hoggard to Hayden, OUT, goddim! What a ball, swinging in on Hayden who on-drives, loses balance, it takes the outside edge and there's the breakthrough for England. Hayden looked to the heavens immediately and didn't wait for the finger.

Harmison to Ponting, no run, crikey, that was a bit wild. Like a 60s stoner, miles outside off but somehow cutting back in a bit

Over 27.6: Cosgrove to Philipson, OUT: on his pads, Philipson hits it strongly to mid-wicket, but Ferguson is waiting there and takes the catch! That's lunch and what tragedy for the Bulls.
