LEHMANNS captaincy part 2

First Class Cricket Talk (International and State)

Pick any captain with any back ground you like mal, but,if you dont have the cattle.........that is where Boof's problems lie.IMHO.
Other then Lehmann,Gillespie and Elliott (who is continuing to battle) the rest of our squad is there on potential, with few of them yet to realise that potential.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

Well it has obviously confused you. Go back and read once more what I've written and tell me exactly where I have said Marsh would do a better job than Lehmann. What I am saying is ... and I'm typing this slowly for you ... is Lehmann has already indicated he would like someone to step into the captaincy role.

No it hasn't. You say Lehmann has 'made some very ordinary decisions' and 'I really don't believe he has been up to his previous high standard as captain'. On Dan Marsh you go on to say that 'I just feel he would be the ideal man to captain the Redbacks for the next 2-3 years'. This indicates to me that you think that Marsh would do a better job than Lehmann. It's all about interpretation.
No need to be a frontarse about it either.

As we don't have a ready made replacement at this time, I have looked outside South Australia for a suitable recruit who would do a great job for the Redbacks and came up with Dan Marsh. Pardon me for daring to suggest something that may help South Australian cricket.

Crikey, if it's recognition that floats your boat then congratulations for bringing up DM as a suggestion. You are indeed a visionary. I just happen to disagree with it. It would be a regressive step for SA, imo.

It has nothing to do with Marsh being a great guy, it has everything to do with us securing the services of one of the best cricket minds in the country. Still confused? Yes, you probably are.

We currently, have one of the best, if not the best cricket mind in the country. Let's say they were to go after Marsh. At the commencement of next season he'd be 34 and our younger players would have another season under their belt. Sheesh, we've gone with Manou in the past who's to say a Ferguson or Borgas wouldn't do a good job after an apprenticeship under Lehmann. A better decision than a DM, once again, imo. Confused? Hardly.

Disagree ther is abundant talent in the team as evidenced by a useful pura cup
season 2005/2006 and a 2nd in the ing cup
Harris, Cosgrove, Borgas, Ferguson, Cullen , Bailey are all babybacks who will
flourish in coming seasons

Sums up the challenge Lehmann has BOONEY
They are either elderly+ declining or inexperienced
We dont seem to have 27 year olds at thier peak.

For the record the last 2 games
SA V QL p/cup
SA V VI o/d game
BOOF has captained the available cattle very well[no TAIT]

In the SA V QL game he was given no hope by the selectors, on a quick bowlers
paradise pitch he was given ROFE/GILLESPIE and the other 3 CULLEN/BAILEY/COSGROVE
QL played 5 quicks and a spinner DORAN who did not bowl a ball in the match.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BOOF restricted the strong batting QLD team to 570 in 2 digs, good effort.

SA V VI o/d game he was given GILLESPIE/HARRIS/PUTLAND/CULLEN/COSI/BOOF
To restrict them to 252 was a good captaining performance
BOOF rotated his bowlers expertly

You have to admire 23 year old Cameron Whites captaincy this season.
He has had up to 6 quick bowlers sidelined this season and has still managed
to bowl sides out and win games this year.

Lets hope the recent pattern continues in 2007 for BOOF.

Rather than start a new thread I'll use this one. What were peoples thoughts on the Lehmann article in the papre the other day about all his business interests? I know he is injured but I just wonder if all of those things are and were distracting him from cricket. All this talk about him being a selector and future coach I think may have been a distraction not so much to him but the team. There is not a social event in this state that he doesn't attend but perhaps that is part of his job.

I have to agree with some of the comments above that his leadership and captaincy this year has been fairly poor. Flipper will be the one that will cop it in the end though. I am not knocking the guy, he is a legend but I just feel this hasn't been one of this best years.

I haven't seen too much this year, but he has been criticised fairly heavily for his captaincy on here. Last year he would have been considered the best captain in Australia and for years before that it was common knowledge he was an imperative part of the Australian team tactically as Ponting's right (or should I say left) hand man.

I think he is experienced enough to handle all the outside stuff. Really, we have been bowling teams out for reasonable scores and it has only been our batting that has struggled. A captain can't do too much about batting. I don't think Lehmann's captaincy or off-field ventures are at all an issue.

Aerie, his captaincy in close games has been very ordinary
and we should have won at least 2 other games that were lost.

Remember the NSW game we had them 5/18 chasing 139 and lost.
He absolutely crucified Bailey the leg spinner, Bailey has rarely played since.

Maybe Lehmann is a great 2IC, but not a great Captain?

Until this season I considered BOOF as the best domestic captain in the country.
Thats why Im frustrated with his captaining this year.
