I think Aust came close to this feat back in the 90s against England. Was it Slater, Taylor, Boon made 100s and M.Waugh 99?

You can imagine how hard it must have been in the field, or bowling at them. So you have one of the worst test playing nations in the world vs one of the best, and they have the extreme conditions to battle as well as the class of thier opponents. That's assuming that those cramped up and dehydrated batsmen weren't just recovering from a night out on the turps, but an ideal situation for creating a batting record IMO.

All records should count. Every era has had their easy beats. Take SL out of Border (and the Chappels?) records, NZ out of the Dons records.

If it were really that easy, it wouldn't be the first time this has happened. Easy to bag Dizzys 200 against the Deshis, but who did it before him? No one. Who has done it since? No one.

It's not the top 4 but it shows that big scores can happen anytime v any country

Throughout history most countries (prob all bar Aust & England) have been 'minnows' in their early development but that's how they slowly get up to speed. If you start to discount certain tests from averages what about scores on flat-decks, scores when opposing bowlers are injured ...?

West Indies and India would be a better comparison for the Don, because the only Test Aust and NZ played together in up until 1972/73 (1945/46), he didn't play in it.

any bloke that can spend that long at the crease and keep his concentration deserves every run he has made no matter who the opposition is!!!!
