My favourite stat I've read today- no other batter in test history has opened more often (93 innings) and averaged less than Zak Crawley (31.06).

Out for 14 will make that even lower.

When he faced us in the Ashes of 2023 he was averaging 28 but was Englands highest run scorer of the series averaging 53. That was in England. In 2021/2 in three tests in Australia he had 6 digs averaging 27.

They must not have anyone else making a case for his spot.

Well the top three 2025 County Div 1 run scorers are openers (and former England openers), Hameed, Sibley and Lyth so there's definitely other options to replace Crawley but obviously England love the Duckett and Crawley partnership too much to break it up . They have been a very successful opening partnership for England .

England with a forth innings target of 374 will have to obliterate a 123 year record to win the test.

Gill has scored the second most runs by a captain in a test series (754), only behind Bradman (810 v England in 1936/37). He's also scored the second most runs by and Indian in a test series, only behind Gavaskar (774 v WI in 1971).

Other Day three stats-

Washington Sundar’s batting spree at the end has probably won India the match … we will see.

This is the record they have beaten, not sure it means alot, id like to know from how many opportunities compared to the others. It seems England and India have played against each other an awful lot recently where as i suspect the 70's and 80's Indians wouldve avoided the West Indies like the plague

Benthall was trying to get the 42 off that one ball.

Get one in the first 10 runs and tonight might be worth watching.

Stumps Day 4, rain stopped play early.

Ind 224
Eng 247
Ind 396

Eng 6/339, require 35 to win

Brook 111 (98)
Root 105 (152)

Smith 2*
Overton 0*

Brook and Root batted magnificently, although Brook had an early let off with Siraj catching him on the boundary but unable to stay inside the rope. Then again Jaiswal was kissed on the dick in his innings, having been dropped 3 or 4 times.

https://www.ecb.co.uk/video/4332888/sir ... n-the-rope

Bethell must have found a Willy Wonka golden ticket to get into the side, he’s not anywhere near Test standard.

Woakes has his arm in a sling so is in doubt to bat, but apparently wants to if required.

Eng had the match won in a canter until Brook and then Root got out.

Ind came back hard and were just about unplayable when the heavens intervened to stop play early. They were quite unlucky, as conditions will certainly be different when play starts today.

A seemingly fitting end to this series … the Poms, with Smith at the crease, may end it all in 2 overs, or India could just as easily clean up the tail for a famous win.

F**k me, the Bazball coats are going to win unless India pulls off a miracle themselves.

Watching last night and then the highlights now Root and Brook dominated and obviously got England into a great position to win now.

Root now has 39 test hundreds the forth most in test cricket and 24 in England, the most by a batter in a single country. Jayawardene, Kallis and Ponting all made 23 at home.

NIGHT WATCHMEN
Im neither for or against a nightwatchman in cricket
Australian teams use the NW regularly
By regularly being the best team in the world over 3 centuries, it must mean its a good enough tactic

I didnt like batting in those situations , so I have an understanding of why the NW is used

Deeps NW66 is a reason why India might still win this match
Great to see my fav 2 poms Joe and Harry make tons
As for Joe - DONT POKE THE BEAR ....

Not in today's game, they used to be sent in when the light was deteriorating, the first hint of bad light and the players are off in a flash.

My first under 14 district game was against Southern Districts way down south, I had bowled a bit that day but rated my batting skills at club level so I thought how hard could district be so I volunteered to open as a NW.

I took the first ball and it was the quickest ball I had faced until that point in time about two foot outside off and then the Christies Beach Doctor swung it and rattled my castle, the coach spat it and I could hear him losing his shit saying "I knew we should've just kept the same order" as the regular opening batter strode out there. 2nd ball in and he copped what I copped with the same result, I thought the coach was gonna blow a valve after that, we were 3/0 after 2 at stumps.

Week two saw me and the two other lads that were dismissed decide to go for a walk to the shop, we then decided to go check the beach out and got lost returning, a couple of parents got in their cars to go searching for us as they were 8 down, we were found and it was all put on me being the newcomer. I had to make sure I bowled well in the 2nd dig to bail myself out.
