New vice-captain for test team Poll

Postby Ruck Legend » Mon Feb 18, 2008 1:20 pm

With Gilly retiring, it is time for Australia to look at the next vice-captain for both one-dayers and test matches.

Michael Clarke has already showed he may be the man, but if Ponting was injured and missed a test would you want Clarke to be a test captain yet.

What are your thoughts.

I chose Matthew Hayden for this spot. Michael is definantly long-term but if Ponting missed a test I would want Haydos to captain and then Pup to be VC.

Let's see how Pup goes with the one-dayers first. Ashes 2009 is coming up. Can not afford to give them the urn straight back

I wouldn't mind seeing Brett Lee doing the job...
But it's unlikely.

I think Michael Clarke is the obvious choice with his age, playing performance and his limited showing as captain in lesser forms all ticking the right boxes.

I went with Lee. It's about time a bowler got it. Warne was one I think, undefeated at ODI's.

Why should a bowler get it,just because he is a bowler?

If Michael Clarke has not done enough this summer and indeed over the last year in improving :

1: The way he bats.Early in his career cover and point were rubbing their hands together waiting for a catch, which often made him look over attacking. This is out of his game now.

2: The manner in which he handles the media (for me,a sign of maturity) now.He does it with ease and with little of the cheeky manner he used to.He knows it is part of his future.

3: The fact he is now cemented in both forms of the game,is one of the worlds best fielders and has matured no end.

The only fear I have for him is when he does finally take over from Ponting I am not sure he will be inheriting a quality unit as Ponting and S.Waugh had the fortune of doing.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.
