Re: Langer is finished and can't see the ball anymore and shouldn't open up in the Ashes series.

Currently there is a poll on baggy green about what opening combination should represent Australia in the upcoming Ashes series. Of course I voted for Haydos- Jaques but over 60% of the votes so far are in favour of keeping the Langer/Hayden combination together for at least another season. FWIW, I hope whoever does get the gig manages to tear the English attack a new one.

I think Langer will get the gig for the 1st Test at least. There is no way the selectors would put Jaques in before him. Langer will want to be playing well to retain his spot in the side.

Having said that Hayden may also be under pressure from Jaques as well. Unless they both play well (which is most likely - they are the best opening pair Australia has ever had) then Jaques will probably take one of their spots in the near future.
