RIP Bill 'Bearders' Frindall

Postby JAS » Sat Jan 31, 2009 8:54 pm

A behind the scenes and stats legend of the cricket world has died...Bill 'Bearders' Frindall.

Always loved the banter between him and the rest of the TMS team...especially with Aggers.

OMG!!

TMS is the best part of an ASHES sereis. Growing up listening ever four years to Trueman, Johnners, Aggers (recently), CMJ and Blowers (my dear old thing) well it was a hiighlate of the winter.

Bearders baritone interjections on statistics made the whole listening experience.

I still have his edited copy: Guinness Book of Cricket records.

This year ASHES wont seem the same, really it only Blowers from the originals when I first started listening (1985) who is left.

Apart from mark Nicholas who is a goose the English commentators are so much better than ours.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I tried asking him a question on that Stump the Bearded Wonder last year some time, but for some reason, my e-mail wouldn't send. He will be always remembered as a stats legend, for sure. He took the rational stance that those ICC World XI and African/Asian teams do not count towards Test stats, as well as not acknowledging the ICCs decision to change the forfeited Test result to a draw. And really, a man of such stature in the cricketing world should be listened too, but the ICC certainly did not.
