Aussie Squad for Malaysian Tri-Series

Postby blink » Wed Aug 23, 2006 11:53 am

Ricky Ponting (c) TAS 31
Michael Hussey (vc) WA 31
Andrew Symonds QLD 31
Nathan Bracken NSW 28
Mark Cosgrove SA 22
Daniel Cullen SA 22
Stuart Clark NSW 30
Michael Clarke NSW 25
Brad Haddin NSW 28
Matthew Hayden QLD 34
Brad Hogg WA 35
Phil Jaques NSW 27
Mitchell Johnson QLD 24
Simon Katich NSW 31
Brett Lee NSW 29
Damien Martyn WA 34
Glenn McGrath NSW 36
Shane Watson QLD 25

Gilchrist has been rested due to a heavy workload, and Haddin comes in as his direct replacement. Mike Hussey continues his astonishingly rapid rise by being named vice-captain. What does everyone think Australia's best ODI side would be (assume all are 100% fit) that should take the field in the ICC Champions Trophy and the World Cup next February?

From that squad:

Hayden
Jaques
Ponting
Hussey
Symonds
Clarke
Haddin
Lee
Hogg
Bracken
McGrath

Do they still have super-sub? If so, I'd have Watson as super-sub. Symonds is a good enough bowler at one-day level to be the 5th bowler with Clarke and Hussey to finish off any overs if needed.

I won't be laughing until that 20/20 bulltish goes. You could have two overs a side and Americans still wouldn't be interested. **** em..go to test matches.

Twenty20 will be here to stay, but no matter what cricket does, like you said REB, it will never ever break into the American market.

I think it is good for one game a summer, like Cricket Australia did last year and have scheduled this year. Anymore than that would be too much though.

One game of 20/20 is too much.
