QL V TA ford cup game

Postby mal » Wed Oct 11, 2006 9:33 pm

TAS 172
QLD 1/173

QLD 5 POINTS [INCLUDING BONUS POINT]

TAS were 6/69 early , Doherty made 53 as TAS scrambled to 172
Noffke 3/30 took bowling honours.
QLD lost 1 wkt in reply that being Hayden for 91, Maher 69 n.o.
Easy win to QLD but TA showed good signs.
Ben Hilfenhaus bowled superbly 10 overs 0/29 and was extremely
unlucky not to have Hayden[on 0] out lbw and Maher[on about 10] lbw as well.
I feel both were out.
Hilfenhaus bowled at about 140 kms + and is in for a bright future, International
representation a possibility.
His outfield catch to dismiss Hayden showed he can field as well.

Even though QLD won emphatically they are not the force of previous years.
Kasperowicz + Johnson will improve the bowling, the batting after Hayden/Maher
looks brittle, Symonds and Watson when available are the missing links.
TAS will have a potent 3 prong attack when Wright comes back, Griffith, Hilfenhaus
and Wright will be a great combination.
TAS have unearthed some good juniors and will surprise teams this year.
Paine, Birt, Bailey and Hilfenhaus are impressing in the last 12 months.
The lack of genuine allrounders is TAS problem.

SA at this stage look a better combination then these 2 teams in the Ford cup.

SA have a pretty strong side for this Sundays game against NSW and should win, but you can never be certain about anything with the Redbacks. At least Boof, Dizzy and Tait are in form in grade cricket.
