Yep he was!

And WCP i was not responding to your comment. If you look, Ludeman did not do overly well in the 20/20 futures comp! So not a logical replacement for mine.

Manou i think has to start playing more of an anchor role as such, not trying to hit the big balls and play the "out-there" shots. He is not that type of player. Leave that to the Christians and Cosgroves to do.

I would think dropping Manou would be an aboslute last resort, due to the affect it would have on the team. As seen by Adcock, its extremely hard to drop a skipper. Has a massive affect on the side and i think Manou will play for the entire series no matter what. Rightly or wrongly

Laughable that anyone thinks Manou should be dropped.

I think Manou should be dropped.... down the batting order.

That way if he doesn't make runs it doesn't matter too much as long as his keeping is up to scratch, batting at 6 he needs to score runs.

NO
MANOU is the best keeper in SA
He is our Captain and deserves his spot
End of story

BUT
He is no longer the next choice as the AU keeper
Nearly every other keeper in the land is batting exceptionally well

On batting form MANOU is last in the pecking order
As a pure gloveman he is still possibly the best in the land

However the modern keeping revolution now decreeds that if a keeper is runless he wont make it
Inferior glovemen who can bat is the modern way
gilCHRIST and HADDIN are classic examples
Wayne PHILLIPS was perhaps a pioneer for batting keepers in AU

I'm with you Mal. Ludeman is nowhere near good enough YET to replace Manou. He is the best keeper we have by far. As has been mentioned on this forum so many times though, how is he batting at 6? Drop him down to 8 and the problem with his batting isn't as bad.

Having said all that, the shot he played on Monday was disgraceful, and it was not the first time he has done something like that. The skipper should provide a better example, and lets hope he does in the future.
Don't be scared. Now is not the time!

Doesn't necsisarily mean it's the right way though. Gilchrist is obviously an exeption being such a freak but just look at the mistakes England have made trying to find a Gilchrist. They have been going through keepers at a rapid rate only to eventually settle on Prior who can't keep and whose batting is really not that good. They should have stuck with Chris Read.

Australia have been making similar selection blunders since 2005 trying to find an Andrew Flintoff.
