I was calling for Jaques over Langer a year ago due to the number of times in recent series that Langer has been sconned. My theory is that Langer isn't picking up the ball as well as he was five years ago when he was peeling off some very large numbers.

Having said that (at great length at the time), I'm not all that unhappy with JL's selection for this series. Langer, Ponting, Hayden, Martyn and Gilchrist are seasoned Test cricketers who deserve a chance to right the wrongs of 2005 and Langer is averaging 70 in first class cricket so far this season.

Jaques time will come rod.
