Jason Gillespie receives clearance from the ECB

Jason Gillespie will join Glamorgan for the 2008 season after the Australian received clearance yesterday from the ECB to play for the Welsh county this summer.

"We're delighted that this matter has now been resolved and that Jason has been cleared to play for us," said Glamorgan Chief Executive Mike Fatkin. "We appreciate that the ECB has been in a very difficult position with a number of registration applications and whilst we've had to be patient we understand that they've had a number of challenges to deal with. But we can now look forward to getting Jason over here, which we are aiming to do by the end of next week in time for him hopefully to make his debut for us against Middlesex at Lord's on the 23rd."

"We are all absolutely delighted by the news," added Cricket Manager Matthew Maynard. " I`m very pleased that we will have such a proven performer with a wealth of experience, both at county and international level, playing for Glamorgan this summer. I'm sure that all of our squad will benefit from Jason's experience and knowledge of the game, and I'm really looking forward to welcoming him to the dressing room, and working with him throughout the summer. "

Ryan Harris is playing for Sussex this year, and are currently playing against the MCC

Sussex 1st Inn
RJ Harris - b Tedwell 19 (48 minutes, 37 balls, 4 fours, 51.35 s/rate) at number 8
MCC 1st Inn
RJ Harris 4/36 off 17 overs with 9 maidens (2.11 RPO), plus a catch and runout.

The bowling is even more impressive as he took the first three wickets of which two (Joyce and Shah) have played test cricket

Well, Ryan Harris couldnt do much for Sussex today as they started the season vs Hampshire -

Sussex were forced to withdraw Ryan Harris from their Championship opener against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl at the last minute after he signed a three-year deal with Queensland.

Harris was picked up as a Kolpak player and joined for Sussex on the understanding that he held a British passport and met current ECB regulations. However, his deal with Queensland might put him in breach of contract with Sussex and the county are believed to be seeking clarification of the situation from the player.

"Naturally it is disappointing that Ryan was withdrawn minutes before the start of play," Gus Mackay, Sussex's chief executive, said. "We are currently working with the relevant authorities and their lawyers in the hope of resolving the situation."

Harris learned his cricket in South Australia but chased a move after they only offered him a two-year deal, despite his growing importance to the team.

There are not many Aussies playing in county cricket this season, with the IPL influence.

Worcestishire - Steve Magoffin
Glamorgan - Jason Gillespie
Hampshire - Shane Watson
Derbyshire - Chris Rogers
Sussex - ?Ryan Harris?

Well the county season has just lost a lot of personal interest with the announcement that Ryan Harris and Sussex have parted ways due to the contract he has signed with Queensland.

Brad Hodge, the Australian batsman, will miss the next five weeks of the county season with Lancashire after signing for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. It is a move that has come out of the blue and the player only learnt of the approach within the last 48 hours.

Hodge is the leading scorer in Twenty20 cricket worldwide with 1649 runs at 42 and a strike-rate of 139 from 47 matches. "I was approached only 24-48 hours ago and I'm still in shock at the opportunity that has been presented," he said.

Hodge will join his Victoria team-mate David Hussey at Kolkata, who will lose Brendon McCullum to New Zealand's tour of England at the end of the month and Ricky Ponting to a training camp. He will leave after Lancashire's current Championship game against Somerset and the first match he misses is the Friends Provident Trophy clash against Scotland. Lancashire have no current plans to bring in another overseas player for the period Hodge is away.

Andre Nel has received six penalty points under the ECB's code of conduct for two offences during Essex's Championship match against Derbyshire.
Nel was reported by umpires Tim Robinson and Richard Illingworth for two separate level two breaches of the code, each of which attracts three penalty points. The first offence was using obscene language or making an obscene gesture and the second was "throwing the ball at or near a player, umpire or official in an inappropriate and dangerous manner".
