When do the public get a say?

Postby Booney » Thu Nov 23, 2006 10:15 am

When,oh when will the viewing public get a say in this rabbit from Gitland getting the ar5e off the giggle box.Mark Nicholas, you my friend are the worst commentator/critic/"expert" the cricket world has seen, and IMO will ever see.If the late great Kerry Packer was still here taking a punt on things, one would be backing himself to know the public think this bloke is a clown.

The only thing that may save us is this bloke gets so excited about nothing he may well drop a "f" bomb or perhaps wet himself on air one day.My guess it will be when Kevin Peitersen does something "EXTRAORDINARY".

"EXTRAORDINARY",Nico's equivalent of Bruce's "Speeeeeeecial".

Now for the cricket.

Rant over.

I like him, enjoy him miles ahead of anything else channel 9 has to offer now or for a long time.
Nice to have someone with a bit of personality on there who is well spoken and well presented.
Each to their own though.

Richie died about 15 years ago and no one noticed so I gues he can keep going forever. Just top up the embalming fluid at the start of every summer and away he goes.

He is a class act. Thats why he is there. Packer was there when he started. He has a very good understanding of the game. Brings a nice balance to the coverage.

Booney, you are spot on , this bloke has been giving me the sh!ts for five years since they 1st brought him out here in 2002-03.

He is a goose, and if you read the 1989 tour diary of Geoff LAwson and the 93 tour diary of Steve Waugh you'll see what a goose the Australians think of him...

He played two or three tests in the mid to late 80s when the Pommy team had a revolving door at the top of the order....

IMHO their are only four good TV commentators in this country who show the insight into the tactical and psychological aspect of test cricket Ritchie, Chappelli, Tails and Heals. The Bill and Tony niggling act has been pissing me off for years, Tony must have had pictures of Kerry in compromising positions to keep gettting a gig. I love Billy Birmingham and the 12th man CDs but they have prolonged the careers to teh detriment of Bill and Tony, was I the only one who chuckled at Bills comment, "here comes the Australian captain, Ricky Hayden"

If they are going to bring out a POM who can commentate, a least bring out Gower and Atherton who show some knowledge of the game. They have this year, so give them more of a go and p!ss this wanker Nicholas off.

Digital TV is great but the worst aspect of it though is the radio is now at least a second in front of TV when it comes to the action as the analogue camera's convert the image to a digital format. As a result i can't have the ABC commentary on whilst watching the TV. Mind you ABC radio has Roebuck whose psuedo-intellectual righteousness pisses me off to.....

Whats wrong with listening to Australian commentatorys??? FFS we've proven over the past 20 years our blokes know more about the tactical and psychologicals aspects of cricket more than any other country does.....

time to get off my soap box...

tony greig makes some awful comments. Sometimes u think he isnt there.

In the 96 world cup quater final aus v nz mark waugh got a leading edge over point for 4. Tony greig said somthing along the lines of beautiful shot completely intentional.

I have noticed plenty of other little things like this for years.

I tended to agree with most of what you said, and I'm with you 100% on this point. For me, part of the pleasure of listening to the Ashes cricket on the radio from England was the commentators such as Brian Johnson, Trevor Bailey, Fred Trueman, etc. Although Alan McGillvray was there as well, there was something magical in hearing the English voices calling the game.

I feel the same way when watching cricket in Australia. I want to hear Aussie voices, and plenty of them. I do like it when Jonathon Agnew and Kerry O'Keeffe get together, it's priceless.

I cannot handle Tony Greig. When he is being interviewed, he can be an interesting person. However, I cannot stomach the way he continues to rubbish the "bad behaviour" of the Australians when he himself was possibly the worst behaved cricketer I have seen on a Test arena.

I'm not sure if "pseudo-intellectual" is the way to describe Peter Roebuck, however I do find him to be pompous and over-bearing. People tell me Mark Waugh was very good in the commentary booth bit I've never heard him. How about giving some more Aussies a go rather than all these overseas personalities?

Chappelli is the best commentator in the game. Says whats on his mind. Great to listen to.

Yeah, I'm with you on that, I got sick of typing with my original post, but I like listening to the Beeb commentary every four years with teh ASHES tours and to listen to Blowers, Aggers, Johnners when England tour here on the ABC as the guest commentator and Harsha Bogle when India tour is sensational. Harsha speaks English better than I do....his diction and vocabularly puts mine to shame.

So I susppose I should temper my original post is that i like to hear oversees commentators when their team is touring here but other than that F**k off (Aggers and Harsha can stay permanently) but Nicholas, Roebuck, Greig, there is a bus leaving in 30 mins, be under it!!!
