Apparently we haven't given up on the quest for an allrounder.

I am happy they haven't rushed Hughes in. I am not sure it's in the lad's best interests to make his debut in the spotlight at home (when we are 2-0 down) v what now seems to be the best team in the world. Our top order is struggling as it is without putting OTT expectations on a 20 year old :?

Blood him in the one-dayers then take him on tour, ease the lad in IMO

I'd keep Roy at 6, as much as I think he is in the side on reputation only. Maybe the penny will drop that he has to bat more responsibly now he has a last-minute reprieve. If he's fit of course. I don't think we can afford to weaken the batting or bowling by playing MacDonald.

I think the selectors will spring a surprise and play Bollinger ahead of Hilf. If so, what was the point of making him 13th man in Melbourne?

PS: Where does MacDonald's selection leave Noffke?

Great article:

http://content-aus.cricinfo.com/ausvrsa2008_09/content/story/384586.html

Does the new group of selectors under Andrew Hilditch have the same clinical approach as the panel did when Trevor Hohns was in charge? They should remember that when Healy was nudged aside, his replacement Adam Gilchrist won over the Brisbane crowd by the end of his first match. Fans and team-mates move on

I think that the selectors are too scared to make any changes! This is the perfect time as we have lost the series already, we have two tough tours ahead and getting a game into some young fellas would be great ... However it is now common knowledge that selectors are weak as p*** and refuse to take any such gamble with a batsman as they do with the bowlers ...

QFT!

What a perfect time to play Hughes at opener, Marsh at 6 and Hilf for Lee. But no, their sick obsession with an all-rounder continues to McDonald gets a call up.

What's the obsession with Shaun Marsh. He should not play Test cricket for Australia, at least not until he improves his Shield performances. He is waaaaaaaaaaaay down the list.

Now that it looks like Lee will miss the South African tour I'd like to see the selectors point the bone at Tait. Unless he's got a serious injury I'd like to see him replace Lee as our out and out quick and intimidatory bowler. Throw him to the wolves, if he stands up sweet if not put a line through his name for good.

what has tait done to get a gig in the test side?? his statistics are crap in the shield this year and he is injured! he is a bigger liability than watson!
shaun marsh is also only averagin 21 as an opener this year and therefore should not be considered with the likes of jaques, rogers, hughes, klinger!
tait is crap!

Shaun Marsh has made 4 FC centuries in 51 matches. I stand by my post ;)

What happened to the days of proving yourself at Shield level before being selected...?

but the point is that clarke was making those runs in the spot that he played in the aussie side....
Shaun Marsh has only averaged 21 as an opener this year and this is his first year as an opener in the SS. Therefore he should not be picked to replace hayden because his stats are not up too scratch

Apart from dominate? Yes, he has been a bit expensive per wicket in Shield cricket this season but he's been economical. He's not even close to Watson yet in the punchline stakes. Tait is crap? Reality says different.

First Class career: 198wk @ 28.6 with a strike rate of 46.8 and going at 3.7 rpo.
One Day career: 134wk @ 21.6 with a strike rate of 26.2 and going at 4.9 rpo.
One Day Int. career: 33wk @ 23.5 with a strike rate of 25.7 and going at 5.5 rpo.

This season

Sheffield Shield: 13wk @ 40.8 with a strike rate of 65.6 and going at 3.7 rpo.
Ford Ranger Cup: 12wk @ 21.6 with a strike rate of 26 and going at 5 rpo.

that is what im talking about with tait.. i think he should be an automatic selection for the ODI's as his record proves that and especially after his world cup dominance... but for test's?? no way, he is averagin above 40 in our first class comp, and you want to play him agianst the best batting attack in the world atm?? tait is far from a four/five day bowler! we had injuries this test with lee and you would take tait who can only bowl maximum15 overs a day into a game! tait would be around 12th in the pecking order IMO
