Agreed, i dont like Smith at 3 or Head at 4. Infact i dont like Smith in the team at all really but that isnt going to change, he has a spot until he retires, not sure he is worthy of it with his form over the last 3 to 4 years
If we could get away with Marsh at 3 that solves the issue, big if though.

As much as I agree with you I find this staggering:

Smith must of had a good 2021, im sure we could pull some stats that would put his average at around 30-35 over the last couple years

Last 7 dismissals brings him into around 30, that's with 91 not out, he's never really gone more than 4 test matches without a half century and there's usually a couple of 30-40's amongst them.

I get what you're putting down, I'd love to not like the guy even after thinking he was the greatest at one stage, he does actually do enough to warrant selection.

Marnus has hit one ton in his last twenty tests but the odd 60+ keeps him afloat.

I agree I'd much rather have Trav down the order.
I don't mind the Lab opening.
But I also don't mind having Trav go berserk like Warner used to and put the bowlers straight under pressure.

The selectors need to be careful pigeon holing blokes.
Some of you have said Harris, Bancroft etc been tried and tested and failed at the level.
Uzzies failed at the level, so has Marsh and others.
As a batter ages he gets to know his game better, matures and gets another opportunity and takes it.
If you are making consistent runs you're in.
Unfortunately all our openers have failed in their respective shield games.

1: He's been our most consistent middle order batsman for some time now.
2: He isn't Warner and we don't have the luxury of someone having the ability to take it up to the bowlers in the middle order if he fails at the top.

Usman got dropped after three failed Ashes tests in succession.

I'm not saying that I'm right, I just don't agree with you.

I agree I'd much rather he stayed in the middle order but what other options would the selectors contemplate?

Konstas made 42 today then had a brain fade against Murphy.

Did the hard yards then blew it
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

When do we get to play minnows? we only ever seem to play the top few, would be good to be able to blood some youth.

I’m going with the young fella Konstas
Harris, Bancroft, Renshaw have had multiple opportunities and failed.
Play the kid.

This is likely the first of two opening spots needing to be filled in the next 12 months. I think Khawaja will retire before next summer. For that reason, I think we need to lock in a proper opener this summer and Green’s injury is a blessing in disguise.

Not sure if anyone caught The Back Page last night, but when the topic of who should open came up last, Candice couldn't have been any more smug.
