not so confident here, no Smith, some of our other batsman have been pretty ordinary.

Good chance to just go out and get some decent batting practice

agree with you all if warner gets a flyer bloody go for it turn it in to a one dayer pitch looked pretty easy for stokes, buttler and Bairstow so far today .
at least show intent and take the new ball on if its not happening shut up shop but at least have a crack !

Maybe its playing so much flat track T20 and one day cricket these days that is contributing to players struggling with their technique against fast short pitched bowling?

Whilst a few players got sconned back in the day, 70s & 80s before helmets became the norm, they certainly didnt get hit as regularly as they do these days.

to true jj im sure over your time in the hills you have seen blokes like tarque , taity ,galvin and maybe even gordy cairns or benny warren back in the day and more ..
tried batting with a helmet once in 2000s and never again reverted straight back to the baggy gold and faced all these blokes bar gordy at there peak in a cap got hit once and played the pull and hook all the time both on turf and hard wicket … 100 % agree with your theory …

Good effort in the end to get to tea only 2 down. Bancroft's technique is poor, but he is a fighter and Labuschagne has looked pretty solid. Still 35 overs to negotiate.

Well done Marnus and Trav. Aussies stay 1 up, but you sense the Poms may have their mojo back. Hopefully Smith is ok for Headingly

Survived it after Paine once again got out to the pull shot.

Interesting tactics at the end, we could have taken a single so Head faced the last over, instead we turned it down and Cummins was the man in the hot seat.
