Kelvin Smith is one of the most prolific run scorers in Premier Cricket for over a decade opening the batting. Hasn't been looked at by the Redbacks since his contract was terminated about 5 years ago, until picked for the 2nd XI this past week. Just ticked over another century. Now 28 years of age and with more experience in life than just cricket. Has dominated Premier Cricket in WA too. Valente is also 28 years old and might be on his way to a Bradman Medal this year. Pope is in great form - leg spinners don't grow on trees. Barrett another who consistently scores big runs at Premier Cricket level, opening the batting and keeping for Southern District.

Drew and Johnson have been performing for years at Premier Cricket level too and have finally seemed to cracked through. Yes, we need to top up smartly with interstate cricketers, but there is a nucleus of good local South Australian cricketers who have been performing for many years at Premier Cricket level and have not had a look in, or have been put aside because they haven't made it by the age of 25.

Maybe Gillespie is the man that is finally going to back in the locals?

Kelvin been training with the Redbacks again since Xmas (then picked in Second X1 team and was batting brilliantly till he ran himself out with some disgraceful running between wickets!).

At 28 years of age he is in the prime of his life and ready to give it a real crack. Too many times we chuck them in at the deep end aged 20/21 and they just are not ready, then they write them off forever. Just makes no sense to me.

Yep Eagles I get what you are saying. Saw Kelv as a kid and he was a class above. Why SA don’t back in home grown talent is beyond me at times.

Many people on here have stated look at his average, played 15 matches, had his chance.

I do get all that, but so many times he had to face Starc/Hazelwood at night with a pink ball, or at the Gabba on a green deck.

Would love to see him get another contract next year and really show them all. He is a ripping lad who deserves any success that may come his way in the future.

The Scorpions have sunk SA cricket to an all time new low

Needing four runs of the last over to win the GF against Tassie, they lost five wickets in the final over to lose by one run, yes, that’s correct, five wickets in one over!! The biggest choke I have ever seen on a cricket field!!

Had to watch the last over to believe it.
One wicket was terribly unlucky but the rest were dead set stupidity.
Only in SA

Spencer Johnson flying since coming into the side - does it shit anyone else to think the only reason he got a game was coz he was given a chance by Brisbane in the BBL?

It’s disgraceful that it took that happening before SACA selectors thought oh shit maybe this guy can play.
