I'm all for battening down the hatches when necessary, but fair dinkum, we need an outright badly and it's day 3 so the aim has to be go at a reasonable run rate (at least 3.5 an over) until we get past their total and then lift it to 6 an over to get as far past it as possible as quickly as possible. We know we will struggle if we get set a target on day 4 where we require 6 an over so we have to try and avoid that situation.

Another draw is not going to cut it at this stage of the season.

Fair enough although they'd have to just about double the current run rate to even acheive that. A couple of wickets and there is no chance.

I take your point too, but I think the risk has to be taken. It's not just about smashing fours though. It's about working the ball around and running well between the wickets. That's what our players don't seem to be able to do well enough. They let themselves get tied down because they don't rotate the strike.

Yeah SA are in a tough situation not just in this game but overall... they are damned if they do damned if they dont.....

IMO there thinking is first innings points outright is a bonus but you have to win first innings to have a chance. We have 0 points so 2 points after being reasonably competative in the other games will be pleasing for them.

Agreed we need to turn the strike over more but the batsmen dont want to take risks at the fear of another failure.... A LOSS

we have got ourselves in a good position to take first innings whether that be off 120 overs or 250.... we need to get those 2 points first

Exactly right. This is the biggest problem. Not turning over the strike. As i pointed out in an earlier post there was a point yeterday that for at least 6 or 7 overs the batsmen didn't change ends.

It's amazing how quickly you can score if you work the ball around and run well between the wickets, rather than sitting back and waiting for a four ball.

2/181 off 80

I hope the new ball doesn't = a batting collapse :) .

Hopefully the new, hard ball will spark some runs. We've scored 3 off the last 5 overs!

I'm even going to have to concede this is ridiculously slow. I will however allow them to creep to their hundreds which will put us about 70 behind then they have to start setting up a chance at outright. When Fergs comes in you can guarantee the run rate will lift then!!

Yep it will until he makes his 30-40 runs and then gets out  .

i think borgas has scored 1 run of his last 35 balls faced. That is boring and very poor cricket surely he can turn the strike over a little more than that.

The run rate is beyond ridiculous now. I don't mind them grafting out runs but surely they should be pushing more singles at least. Borgas has scored 8 runs in almost an hour and a half today and 4 of those have come in the last 10 minutes.

borgas = dud!! simple lol well surely at state level you know the easiest way to score quickly is to it singles and turn the strike over... having cosgrove in the middle order would help a considerable amount, or even stagnate the batting order eg: have klinger at 3 ferguson at 4 and then borgas. get two people at the crease that will work together and offer something different..not just a leave and a defensive push back to the bowler

At least he looks to be positive. Ferg will hopefully turn one of his starts into a big score soon and when he does i get the feeling it will give him the confidence to do it on a much more consistent basis.

Borgas is 68 off 228 which is a strike rate of 29.82
Klinger is 81 off 231 which is a strike rate of 34.03

That is way too slow somewhere between 40 and 55 would be much more acceptable IMO.

Agreed RR i just can't wait until he learns that 40's should turn into 100's sometimes. He has been hitting the ball very well this year and he does score freely which is something we obviously lack atm.
