Dont kid yourself Les, results are not a direct result of your pitches but more to do
with the fact that teams have to bowl 90 overs a day.

I would say it is more to do with Australia being so dominant (generally) over the last 15 years. If more evenly matched teams played on Adelaide Oval in that period I suspect there would be more draws.

PS Side issue on over-rates: There should be greater penalties for not getting through 90 overs by 6pm. Today England only managed 88 overs before the cutoff at 6:30pm - far too many unnecessary delays which doesn't attract any extra fans to the game.

88 OVERS BY 6-30 = about 81 overs by 6-00

Exactly my point, we have a curator that publically declares he makes his pitches to entice
results by late on the 5th days, on the old 6-00 curfew and between 30-50 overs less bowled less
these late 5th day finishes= draws

To make a pitch last for nearly 450 overs requires a very very flat deck on the first 3 days,
which incapacitates even the best of bowlers,

The toss in cricket is one of the greatest advantages seen in sport.
Just look at the last 7 tests played between the two nations.
The side batting first has had all the advantages.
2nd test England last series Ponting won the toss and sent the Poms in = 400 runs at stumps!

Winning the toss at cricket on some tracks [like Adelaide] is akin to a footy
team have a 2 goal breeze 3 times in a game.

This Burdett pitch is too batter friendly, I hate sport when its not played on a level
playing field, all sporting conditions should be as equal as possible.
The 5th day will be difficult, whilst the first was a paradise, the toss was imperative
to win for the best chance of victory.

Warne 1/for a million Mcgrath 0/100+, Collingwood 206, yeah thanks Mr Burdett.

Burdett is quick to defend his pitches saying that there has been 14 results
in the last 15 tests.
Dont kid yourself Les, results are not a direct result of your pitches but more to do
with the fact that teams have to bowl 90 overs a day.
In the pre 1990's sides sometimes bowled only 75-85 overs a day.
These days they MIGHT bowl about 50 overs a test more than some of the past tests
That equates to about an extra half day more.
If Adelaide oval tests meandered on at 80 overs a day we would have a significant
increase in drawn test matches.

As for the toss I once suggested we get the players to have stump throwing comps before
the start of each game as a more skillfull way to win a toss.
I was ridiculed.
There must be a better way then tossing a coin which is luck not SKILL :!:

exactly my point mal...........pitch is far to batter friendly.......sure we all would like to see a good contest that runs into the 5th day, but you have to have something in it for both batsman and bowler, not only does it make it a far more even and fairer game but from a spectator point of view it makes for more entertainment..........to overcome the problem we could give the team who won the toss an automatic 1000 runs and play a two day test (4th and 5th day).......so the bowlers at least have some life in the wicket...

Quite simply 450 overs need to be bowled these days.
When they used to knock off at 6-00 the maximum overs were closer to 400 overs a test
50 overs less = less results.

Didn't need Gilly to throw his wicket away like he did. The bowlers have stick around at least until tea.

LUNCH
AU 6/417
CLARK 68*
WARNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNEY 12*

Lunch 4th day, 12 wickets taken for 968 runs in the match.
Giles finally got a wicket when Gilchrist tried to hit the ball into the River Torrens.
A paunchy Warnnnnnnnney got a fair bit of lip from Collingwood and Jones, I
cant understand why....
CLARK an enterprising 68* has now put Damien Martyn under enourmous pressure
for a spot in the 3rd test when Shane Watson will be selected.

If Australia make it to tea about 40 behind, England will be under pressure in thier 2nd dig.

PAFC Gilly always attacks I didnt have a prob with his mode of dismssal, its very
important players play thier natural game to get close to 551.

England for the series has now taken 14 wickets for 1221.

So, he's preparing a wicket based on 450 overs rather than not knowing how many would be bowled ..... I still can't see your point.

Curators prepare wickets for days, not overs. With this wicket, it is not breaking up due to the lower than expected temperatures in Adelaide...thank ****.

AH
Teams have to bowl 90 overs a game in 2006
In the 1980's West Indies sometimes bowled 75 overs a day.

Burdett states he is preparing a pitch for a result late on the 5th day
So hes saying a result in the approximately 400- 425th over to finish on the 5th day.

But in the 1980's where they knocked off at 6-00 every day, the 400th over would
have been stumps in some test matches.

Are curators now making batting pitches to ensure Tests go the 5 day duration ?
Remember the spate of 3 + 4 day tests that were played a few years ago.
Think of all the revenue lost by finishing 1 or 2 days early.
From the bloke selling hot dogs to the bar takings right through to admission fees
for attendances are affected.

I cant help thinking there is a CONSPIRACY to make batting pitches.
Anothr reason for teams to have a 5th bowler as well.

DRINKS 6/453

to give Hauritz,Krejza and Casson more opportunities.

AU 7/502
WARNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNEY 43 lbw OFF THE INSIDE EDGE

HOGGARD 5/106
ANDERSON 1/279 FOR THE SERIES.
MARTYNS LAST TEST MATCH.

What a game.
13 wickets for only 1033 runs !

AU 16 wickets lost for 1306 runs for the series.

What a pitch
Warne bowls a foot outside Pietersons leg stump
Giles does the same when bowling at Warnnnnnnnnnnney.
That should = Giles last test , fancy bowling to the oppositions number 8 batsmen like that.

The hot dog vendor is relieved , we are going into the 5th day.

________________________________________________________________________
Hoggard is quite concievably the WORST English new ball bowler to play in Australia.
He bowls 128 kms, has no bouncer, when no swing he is useless, and he bowled before Harmison, he bowls Ok in England but not here.
