Trav on 5AA last night said Richardson was bowling in the nets. Given Opie only bowled minimal overs last game as the 4th seemer could Richo be a chance?

Andrews in for Opie would be my guess? 5x day final, specialist spinner would be a given I'd think.

Richardson no chance. Doubt he would be anywhere near full pace yet.

Andrews to come in for Opie would be my guess

The West End Redbacks will contest this week’s Sheffield Shield Final with an unchanged team as they face the Victoria Bushrangers at Gliderol Stadium starting from Saturday.

After naming a 13-man squad last week, South Australia have opted for a 12-man team for the Final with Cameron Valente the unlucky player to miss out on selection.

Competing in their first final in twenty years, the Redbacks will enter the match high on confidence as they return to Gliderol Stadium fresh from an emphatic two day victory over the Tasmanian Tigers in Glenelg last round.

Meanwhile reigning champions Victoria will need to secure their first win in four matches in order to retain the Shield and claim back-to-back titles.

The last time the Redbacks played in a first-class final was in the 1995/96 season, when current coach, Jamie Siddons, captained the side to a nail biting win against Western Australia.

Play begins from 10.30am each day, with the match also available via live stream on www.cricket.com.au.

Sheffield Shield 12-man squad
West End Redbacks v Victoria Bushrangers, 26-30 March
Gliderol Stadium, play begins at 10.30am

1. Travis Head (c)
2. Thomas Andrews
3. Alex Carey
4. Mark Cosgrove
5. Jake Lehmann
6. Joe Mennie
7. Elliot Opie
8. Sam Raphael
9. Alex Ross
10. Chadd Sayers
11. Jake Weatherald
12. Daniel Worrall

Would think so.. unless they think Head's tweakers are good enough for 20 odd overs?

Guess it depends a bit on the deck as well - if they leave some grass on it then I reckon Opie will play and Head as the spinner..

This incorrect re-writing of history always annoys me. It was a nail-biting draw, which resulted in us winning the Shield due to the higher placed team rule. The facts are that SA has never won a Shield Final - 3 Shield Finals for 1 loss and 2 draws is the current record.

Heard rumour Travis Head won Shield player of year - if so, what an absolute joke! By his own admission, he has had an ordinary, inconsistent year, albeit has hit form the last two games.

He wont even win the Redbacks best player, with Joe Mennie a certainty for that!

Correct - it's awarded based on votes.

CA named him captain in the team of the season as well.

Reckon his year was better than people realise - 3x 100's which came at times when his team desperately needed them, and he led the Redbacks to their first final in 20yrs... 699 runs @ 38.83 isn't the worst return.

Mennie had a more consistent season for sure though.

South Australia captain Travis Head has been named Sheffield Shield Player of the Year for 2015-16. Head won the award for a season in which he not only scored 699 runs at 38.83, including three centuries, but also led the Redbacks into a Sheffield Shield final for the first time in 20 years.

It has been a big summer for Head, who last year was named South Australia's youngest captain at the age of 21 and this season made his debut for Australia in Twenty20s. On Saturday, he will lead South Australia out for a Shield final against Victoria in Glenelg, knowing that even a draw will be sufficient to secure the title.

Head finished on 16 votes in the polling for Shield Player of the Year, ahead of Tasmania's Ben Dunk, Queensland's Matt Renshaw, and Victoria's Scott Boland all on 14 votes. He was also named in the Australian Cricketers' Association's All-Star Team of the Year, along with fellow South Australians Jake Lehmann and Joe Mennie.

The Benaud Spirit of Cricket Awards went to Tasmania in the men's competition and South Australia in the women's competition. The Cricket Australia Umpire Award went to Simon Fry for the third successive year, while New South Wales' Nick Larkin was named the Futures League Player of the Year and Queensland's Brendan Doggett was the Lord's Taverners Indigenous Cricketer of the Year.
