You're up an about and with good reason. My tip was 2-1 Australia and that is with more than a hint of optimism. Test matches are won by bowlers and we are carrying the reverse Alderman, Mitchell Johnson. He was the reason we won five nil last time and he may be the reason we hand back the urn this time.
Someone said this series has a 2005 feel about it because we didn't make the hard decision on established players, and Watson was named. However the players who might bob up in this series as those who have been carried while we cough up the Ashes could be Haddin and Johnson.
At present our attack is carrying the reverse Alderman which puts a lot of strain on the other bowlers who are very green with the exception of Lyon and the fifth bowler Watson. Haddin is a shit truck and I'd stamp his papers at the end of this test and give Nevill the gloves but it is not that easy with Johnson who could swing the Ashes with one devastating spell.
Not panic stations yet but England would be smiling so far. Johnson ineffective and Harris retired would be music to the Poms' ears. Johnson remains the key to this series just as he was the last. We don't need him to win the Ashes by himself, but we need him to contribute across the series. How he bats tonight could be just as pivotal as the dropping of Root because history has shown that when Mitch bats well, his bowling often improves.
Forget the bash and crash stuff Johnno..you've got a Duke toy. Pitch it up and you will be rewarded. You might get lucky and get one decent wicket but chin music won't get the job on the majority of the tracks over there. Why would the Poms prepare a greentop? They know full well why they lost last time.
Brains not brawn.
