Just to clarify matters Im not saying GilChrist is a better batsman that the others mentioned
I think if The Adam batted top 5 he would not be as good as the others- perhaps his average would be less than 47
But I doubt any other batsman could average 47 batting at 7

Having seen all the batters this is my order and why
1 BORDER faced many great attacks, perhaps the best collective bowlers of any era
2 GREG CHAPPELL played in an era where runs were earnt and an average of 50 plus was a great effort
3 PONTING best number 3 since Bradman- would have been good in any era on my opinion
4 GILCHRIST freakish that he averaged 47 batting at 7, and was above 50 a fair bit as well
All others just or well below these 4, which is only my opinion

They have played a lot of cricket on flat decks and good but not great attacks
Im sure Warner would have been about 35 in Borders era
Smith , dunno , he has the mental will power to succeed and might have done ok in Borders era- and prob average 45ish

Michael Clarke is highly underrated.

I don't think he's quite in that league.......close.
I rate him more as a captain.
Imo one of our best tactically.

Once he got in, he didn't get out.

A 329* vs India, back to back double hundreds (one red inked) vs Sth Africa containing Steyn and Morkel.

I think he is in that league, either way there is no wrong or right list, there would be a dozen batsmen you could fit into the 6 spots available and none of them would look out of place.

I find it interesting that we've never really produced a bona fide all rounder that could fit into a best XI line up.

Does Akram class as an all rounder, is he in the same ilk as Imran or Kapil, I would think that Kallis would rank #1 in that genre with the possibility of Stokes being the closest thing to him by the time he finishes up, Freddie went alright too..............Oh, and then there was Beefa.

His 160 in South Africa in 2014 with a broken scapula against Steyn, Morkel and Philander in the deciding test is one of the great away knocks to set up a series win in a deciding test.

Waugh's 200 at Jamica is the best Clark is in the next line of betting

Yeah agree. Clarke's at times unlikeable personality probably sees his batting underrated.

I've been thinking about my side and didnt consider Clark until i saw his name mentioned and it was purely because i couldn't stand him, especially late in his career.

His as good as any of the names mentioned, all condition, all surface players as well, good against spin, good against quicks.
