The pitch was a road from all reports
To give VI less than 400 with 100+ overs was stupid

VI would get that against our attack about 8 out of 10 times
Plus the bowlers only had about a 3 hour break and might have been knackered

Vic batted very well, that's cricket.

A declaration well worth making.

Agree,we lost to the better side.

A better side on paper yes, a better side in the match, no.

But, like was mentioned earlier, i thought it was a good move to declare but...in hindsight another 50 runs would have been nice (and 20 less overs) to build a bit more pressure.

But against a team like Vic i think it is great that SA risk the points as we have a realistic chance of gaining them. Better than the negative cricket from SA in days gone by.

We are now trying to win games of cricket instead of saving them.

A few of the media are rallying behind MANOU after a poor declaration
If it was a smart Declaration no one would be commenting

because despite your beleifs it wasnt a bad declaration - it needed to happen for the sake of the game and any chance we had of getting 6 points - we needed to declare early so that we could give ourselves enough time to bowl out a good batting side.

if anything what cost us was how slow everyone batted except for cossie and christian in the first innings - from the overs we faced we shouldve easily made another 60 more minimum

This is the key to it to me

Normally, that extra time to bowl is what's needed in the 4th innings rather than an extra 100 runs. We would have been saying he declared to late if they finished at 7-220.

Because they got the runs in a canter doesn't make the declaration wrong. As Mal pointed out, every game last round followed a similar pattern. Teams know how important those 6 points are and so are prepared to roll the dice.
In between signatures .....
