It certainly was the year the boys were making the runs.
But it wasn't them who starred in the GF. I'll leave you to guess who came in at 6 for 60 odd and saved the day with the top score for the innings. ;)

Yeah - Renmark are out, young Turtle's disappointed about that too. Might encourage him to play for Loxton.

It'll be interesting to see what captaincy does for Dan. You were there the day he and Drew Crane teed off at Glenelg Oval?

Poor turtle....

Down here there is

Fitzy
ASH
Mark White
Myself
Brenny
Trav Schiller
Girder

That would help a renmark team a bit i suppose. a reasonable bowling lineup.

At 6 for 60 someone has to get the glory, nice work!!!

There was one particular 6 that Dan hit at glenelg that sticks in the memory. it hit the lightpole on the east side of the ground with the ball still on the way up. i think off memory that the ball ended up halfway back to the pitch.

It would take us 4 hits to get the same result

Remember Drew hit one past the cricketers club, on to the car park and it rolled on to Brighton Road!

That was the day Tommy Wood decided we needed 12 fielders on the ground at once.

Not always the sharpest tool in the shed.

we might have needed 12 that year. not the greatest of years, i remember a gloveman taking 6 catches on debut though

"some" skill. that is an acurate description if comparing to "much" skill

some<much hence you are correct...

There's a few former Riverlanders involved at Payneham isn't there?

Martin Baker, Grant Wyman (?), Jason Gaerth, Travis and Brendan Schiller, Trav Wilton played there too.

Any of those names ring a bell?

Grant Wyman is currently coaching the mighty West Torrens Cricket Club. His dad still runs the menswear shop at Barmera.

Yep, all have played at Payneham, except I'm not sure about Grant Wyman. I can remember being coached by him at Adelaide Oval nets when I was a little tacker. (If this is the same bloke who ended up high up in the SACA coaching structure and played at West Torrens IIRC?)

Trav Wilton I'm not sure what has happened to him. Left a couple of years ago...

I could be wrong about Wyman by the way....it might be someone else I'm thinking of.

Trav Wilton didn't play for a couple of years, then played in the Hills somewhere last year. He was a bloke who could've done a lot more with his talent, but for a bad back and a short temper. Gets married in January - where else at, but outside the Adelaide Oval. Loves his cricket!

Youngster, did you see any gear throwing when Trav was at Payneham?

Sorry all, it wasn't Grant Wyman, it was Grant Wasley I was thinking of.

I also remember Boycott put out a book on that particular tour also... see what gives

I thought Boycotts book was on the 79-80 tour the first one after the split, but yeah teh Gower Taylor book was/is a good read......
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

No, never had the chance of playing with Trav, have spent my time there playing in the lower grades. Ability did not equal ambition in my case! He didn't come across as an angry man... good bloke to have a beer and chat with though!

And Wassa is still chairman of selectors, spent a few years with him on the committee. Great fella.
