Wedgie wrote:I think the best catch I saw was Wundke? for SA in the early/mid 80s in the 1 day series who was fielding around square leg, dove full length to get one hand on a ball that was flying, it popped up, he then had to dive the other way to finish off the catch.

Hey, someone else that remembers that catch! It was to dismiss Kim Hughes during a domestic one dayer. Hughes was fighting his way back into form after resigning as Australian captain and getting dropped from the National side. He was hitting the ball very hard that day, and looked as though he had turned the corner. That was a very, very good catch to dismiss him. I reckon the first bite of the cherry, full stretch off the ground, could have broken the hand of a lesser man, then the miraculous dive to keep the crumbs from hitting the ground ensured I'd never forget that catch.
Felt very sorry for Kim Hughes though, he looked set to make a ton that day!
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

What about "Fatty" Vautin's catch in that charity match at the 'Gabba about 10 years ago?

Yep I'd go for Steve Wundke's catch also, what a peach (was actually at the game iirc) ... Also agree with Diss about Matty Haydens catch in England in the early 90's for memory ... Adam Dale took a beauty for the Bulls at home a few years back in a one-dayer also ...

That would have to go down as one of the most replayed catches in history!

Which inspired The 12th Man to refer to it as "that f*cking caaaatch" on the WWOS II album.

Sam Wundke's hanger was runner up to Mike Gattings full length dive at the first MCG night game for that seasons classic catch winner. Mike Valettas ripper in the one dayer at Adelaide Oval is still up there, along with Adam Dales effort at the Gabba a while ago.
