Why should they do that?
Singh was found to be guilty, he should serve his time.

No, but the words uttered by George (Hoggy) were more derogatory and offensive to Indians than those uttered by Harbahjan to Roy (Symonds). Making comments about the status of parents in India is seen as being extremely offensive. You would encourage this sort of behaviour to continue, despite knowing this cultural aspect?? The Indians were good enough to drop their charge, surely Australians are man enough to drop theirs?

I think the Harbajhan report has gone too far for the aussies to now say they want to drop the charges.
Once the hearing has been heard there is know going back.

Big call. Have you ever been of black African descent? Bit hard to say that if you haven't.

How can you have empathy for Indians but not an Australian of black African descent?

Big call from you too, Smac. Are you from Indian descent? Do you know what it is like to be called a 'basta**' in India? India is a country where the whole culture revolves around the family unit and family values.

We can agree that both terms should not have been used. The difference however is that the Indian cricket team did not want to inflame things further by continuing to press their charge. I accept that what Harbajhan said was wrong but I also believe that it goes both ways. We cannot allow Australian cricketers to use such terms either. After all, Australian cricketers have a huge reputation for using 'racism' and other derogatory language as a part of their sledging. Mark Ramprakesh gave further proof of this this week.

No, I have never said anything about that term being used.

Edit...

So because Australia is a society built around monkeys, it is OK to call Symonds a monkey?

Yes, we can agree on that.

Am still staggered at the number of Australians who all of a sudden don't like the Australian cricket team - like a bunch of politicians taking the popular stance.

Play on.

or another angle BDP-
When Symonds was called a monkey in India, the Aussies made a complaint.
They made it known, that to use that term on Symnonds was considered racist.
Before the start of the this tour, both captains were informed that they are required to report racist comments to the Match Referee.
Therefore the Indians had fore-warning that the monkey term towards Symonds is a racist jibe, & yet Harbajhan Singh still used it...

Still care to defend the Indians now?

At least I'm not like a politician, I've hated them ever since Ponting took over the captaincy.

Phew.
