Bugger this for a joke

OK, maybe not 100 percent accurate but pretty darn close I'd say.

Well done on a magnificent career Gilly. Haddin or maybe Ronchi have some mighty big shoes to fill. Don't reckon Haydos will hang around for too much longer either alas.

Gilly- "How many overs gone today Umpy?"

Umpy- "Err,three mate"

Gilly- "Boon was right."

I don't think he was pushed out

The guys who get pushed are usually the ones who keep on playing Pura Cup ... Border, Boon, M Waugh, Langer (not that I know they were pushed, just speculating that if you are up to playing that level cricket you'd probably be happy to still be playing for Australia)

Well done Gilly on a great career =D> :prayer:

What a send off for a great champion, had huge tears in my eyes as he walked off to that ovation (aint done that before) and support from everyone, a great champion, lets hope he takes them apart in the one dayers coming up as a great farewell to International cricket

i think healy got pushed for gilchrist & in turn gilchrist has been given the push (told to retire or you'll find yourself dropped) for haddin, the reason i think this is 2 days before 'his announcement' he said he was happy, motivated & still wanted to play on

Same as what happened to Boon - his last Test was here, and despite the calls from the crowd he wasn't given one.

But he still can be given the ball during the one day series. :)

I'm with you locky...it was that dropped catch of Laxman that did it, you could see his shoulders drop as if to say oh my god I need to do teh extra work to work on that and my concentration....do I really want to???

Thats when his moment came, time to give it away...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

yep, im also with locky and tassie on this one, i think this whole series has been leading up to this and the Laxman drop catch was the last straw.

They do that to get the media off their back Bayman - Heals on the cricket during tea said its a common tactic. In fact when players say that to the media, Heals reckons he starts to wait for the retirement announcement. Hayden has apparently been saying he wants to play until he is 40 .... I reckon that's code for "I'm not too far away but FFS stop asking me when I am going to retire".

I wonder if he now wishes he quit when he was on top of the world at the end of the World Cup.

the way he was enjoying himself in the last session- where for once in 17 tests the pressure has been totally off with no chance of a potential win or a prospective loss- i think gilly wouldnt change anything- he was loving it.

As for giving him a bowl- I am so glad it didnt happen. He is a keeper and it was great for him to finish the game doing his job as he always has done- to see him bowl down crappy offies would have been embarassing for everyone IMO

He will be missed- seems like a classy classy bloke and a hell of a cricketer to boot

If Haydos was a pom, he'd almost definately be coaxed into playing till he was 40 ala Alec Stewart.
