I haven't actually seen it yet, but I was under the impression that you can only be given 'run out' if the umpire deems you are going for a run. Was Malinga attempting another run?

He wasn't attempting to take a run. He had grounded his bat over the line then the bat got stuck in the ground forcing it out of his had at which point the ball hit the stumps and the bails were dislodged.

Technically you can - Ponting's run-out from short cover of one of the English tailenders at the WACA test last year, or perhaps being run out at the bowlers end from a bowlers deflection.

I beleive DW is correct. The initial rule was changed after a late 90's sheffield sheild game at Adelaide Oval where a fielder pitched the ball at the stumps and Justin Langer who already made his ground,jumped to avoid injury and whilst in mid-air the ball crashed into the stumps and he was given out. If I remember to the news report correctly I beleive that was also the game where a Langer hit the Adelaide Oval Scoreboard with a six :shock: :shock:

Yeah it definatly happened,I remember them saying on the news that Langer done the rare thing hitting the Scoreboard then it showed the shot then you heard a 'bang'. I just can't remember the exact season it was.
Can you bring a man to his feet when defeat is on repeat?
