Unless we get severe injuries I doubt rogers will play for Australia ever again. Hughes and Klinger will go to England for the ashes imho with Hayden retiring before hand.

no brainer -- get any of them in...............Hayden's been great but his time is up

Don't let emotion get in the way

hughes, yes young & would gain invaluable experience, almost a certainty to go to england & may even go to south africa first

rogers, getting the runs but why pick a bloke that is over 30

klinger, with the amount of runs he's scored in 3 months you'd think he's an outside chance but does 3 months form give you the chance to go up or should he have to keep going in this vein of form for a longer period of time

of those 3 players

hughes 1/5 (playing for nsw doesn't hurt either)
rogers 12/1
klinger 3/1

we've picked a 'keeper over 30- & not the best one at that...

Brad Haddin is easily the best option as a keeper-batsman we have in this country. Give him time and he will be one of the premier ones in the world. Just unfortunate for him that he is in the shaddow of the best number 7 who has ever played the game......

I agree with everything that Harvey said except that he is a great of the game not just a good player. I agree when he said that Hayden has gone on one season too long and that the selectors have a duty to ensure the future of Australian Cricket which he thought they were not doing well.

Its not necessarly what Harvey says but the way he says it. He has become bitter. I recall when I was young that Harvey was always introduced as Austalia's gretest ever left handed batsman. They stopped doing that after Alan Border was in the latter stages of his career. The disdain he shows towards the modern players - who are at least the equal of the greats of the past is really pathetic.

he may be the best 'keeper/batsman, but not the best 'keeper

you only get rid of someone when you can replace them with someone better- who do you propose?
We don't have another option at the moment.

Hayden should stay. There is no-one near good enough to replace him with. Most people want a guy who has played about 2 games for NSW to come in to the Australian side.

PS. Hayden is not far away from scoring runs. I also think he will be picked for the next tour.

The way I see it as well.
Haydon being a left hander with a superior average to Harvey was always going to be in the firing line ?

I agree about Robert Neil Harvey, a bitter old man.
A pity he doesn't show the same grace as his namesake, and relative, from St Kilda.

BTW - Rod Hogg is also in the same boat as Harvey. A man who says what he thinks but has become a Mr Rent-a-quote.

Yep well said Ash.

If I read the paper, and there's his name I just ignore it and move to the next paragraph.

IIRC, I heard an interview with Steve Waugh about the baggy Green, and having "old' players back in the rooms etc etc, and the only bloke they ignore and make an effort of not being welcoming is Harvey. Sums it up really....
