I'll stick with what RR says cause he IMHO should be working for the ACB, he has posted a hell of alot of common sense comments in a number of cricket threads this year and that is something the ACB doesnt have, common sense ;)

I want to see Phil Hughes given a crack but pretty certain Phil Jaques will be given a go. After the critiscism the selectors have taken i think they will take a safe selection option and go for the semi-proven Jaques with 2 massive series coming up agains SAF and ENG. Had the next 2 series been against the WINDIES and SL in Australia for example i think they would select Hughes.

Interesting to see that in the NSW v Tas game Jaques has been dismissed for 9. Hughes still going on 14*. A big hundred here for Hughes won't do his chances any harm.

They'd have to take a bigger picture view I think because Jaques was always likely to come back slowly. But a big score won't hurt Hughes' chances.

If they are worried about Steyn and co working Hughes over and denting his confidence the other safe options are Chris Rogers or even temporarially opening with Mr Cricket.

I am worried that Hughes is untested against international standard bowlers and will end up looking like a rabbit in headlights as Warner is starting to. I'd prefer to take a punt on Jacques being able to be ready when he has to be. Hughes could tour though to get experience before the Ashes.

I understand your sentiment re hughes Hondo but i think it is unfair on Hughes to compare him to Warner. Hughes has, since he debuted, been very consistent against a range of attacks on different surfaces whereas Warner got picked on two scores against tassie.

You do realise the difference between Hughes and Warner is massive? You do realise Warner hasn't played a single FC match? You do realise Hughes averages 55?
