MATTHEW ELLIOTT pura cup stats for SA

First Class Cricket Talk (International and State)

Postby mal » Tue Jan 30, 2007 9:09 am

Catch 22 Hawky I cant find a skipper in the available lot.
Perhaps Jason GILLESPIE , it is possibly only for one game until
BOOF comes back, so its a short term fix.

GAME V QL 09-13 FEBUARY in Brisbane

BORGAS
HARRIS must open thats his best form
PLANT
ADCOCK
CAMERON
DIETZ vice captain
CLEARY
BAILEY
GILLESPIE captain
CULLEN
TAIT

R HARRIS 12th man

OMITTED

ELLIOTT loss of form
R HARRIS is a good o/d player but has not taken wickets in the p/cup as yet
perhaps should be given time to develope his bowling

INCOMING

CLEARY good honest bowler who keeps the pressure on and underated batsman
who has made a p/cup 100 last season
ADCOCK good honest batsman with a dynamic 90 in his last o/d innings
if we only select BAILEY as a spinner can be used as the off spinner.
With him in the side it would be an excuse not to bowl COSGROVE
With him in the side it would be an excuse not to play ELLIOTT

If ELLIOTT is selected bat the guy at 5 or 6 away from the new ball.
His 2 o/d hundreds suggest he can build a big innings against the change bowlers.

I picked 5 bowlers because the season is lost now
It would be unfair to the development of the 2 spinners to play only one of them.

This would be the match to bet on. Qld a bit wobbly at the moment and suffering a few injuries. But wouldn't you lose Tait to the one dayers? There'd be decent odds on the backs to I reckon.

Thanks for that team Mal. Now consider this ... if that team were to get pounded in the next match, would you consider that you had done a poor job as a selector?

It would early in the year, but its all about restructuring with 2007-2008 in mind.
The younger players would be exempt from scrutiny.
I am objective and a majority of my criticisms in this forum are against the established
the experienced and elderly players.
I commented that PLANT despite a lack of runs in his career must be given opportunities.
I said that BAILEY is an investment.
My frustrations are at ELLIOTTS failures for 2 years now.
LEHMANN has also frustrated he was the best skipper in domestic cricket until this season.

The Victorian defeat is acceptable the real selectors must now sit back and look at
the positives BORGAS/CAMERON/BAILEY
But need to be blasted for the selection of ELLIOTT.

Whats your team ?

My team is the one the selectors provide. They know more about it than you or I.

THE ABOVE COMMENT WOULD BE THE WORST IVE EVER READ ON THIS SITE

Once again HAWK look at ELLIOTTS stats.

Its the selectors job to identify talent which I cant observe at district level
thats their job I cant compete with that.
When cricketers bat for two years with no runs I think even an Eskimo or a Martian can
identify that the selectors are wrong.

I have followed Elliotts career very closely, as he is a product of my former cricket club Kyabram in country Victoria. His Dad was my history teacher at high school, and also my cricket coach at representative level. So for those reasons I have watched him closely and wanted him to succeed at the top level and especially for S.A in the past two seasons. It's obvious his time has come, I hope that he can make a gutsy decision this week and leave the game as one of the best first class cricketers this country has ever seen.

Yep - there is a spot for him back opening the batting with the Kyabram Redbacks Sotters - actually he might have to bat at #4 or 5 but I'm sure we could squeeze him in somewhere. He was number 4 in the team of the century after all. Come home Matty to where it all began!

v QLD at GABBA

ELLIOTT CAUGHT BEHIND FOR 0

this guy is an absolute joke, there are no words that describe this guys performance for us over the last 2 years, but especially this season.

HE MUST GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I DONT GIVE A FLYING **** IF HE IS GOOD FOR THE YOUNGER PLAYERS, AND HE'S GOOD TO HAVE AROUND WITH THE CURRENT TEAMS POSITION.

HIS POSITION DOESNT WARRANT HIM PLAYING FIRST CLASS CRICKET

HE NEEDS TO

A) RETIRE - and its too late to retire gracefully because we will all remember your selfish poor performances this season

B) BE DROPPED - i forgot the SELECTORS absolutely LOVE him!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the situation is a joke all year, younger players have been dropped when they havent put in a real BAD performance, but ELLIOTT whose whole season has been BAD is SAFE and obviously has IMMUNITY from being DROPPED.

1ST innings came in at 1/102 no excuses

As I have said he is too old and continues to be dismissed caught by the
keeper or slips.
