Clark was always going to be straight into the team when McGrath goes. He'll get his chance to prove himself in the ODI arena, just like he has done in Tests.

Take away Shaun Tait's wides & no ball yesterday and he took 4/23.

Take away Sri Lanka and Australia are aiming for four world cups in a row.

REB

Remember that 5 of those wides came from it running down to the fence for four....Manou should have stopped it!

What would you prefer REB - 4/34 with 9 extras or 1/35 with no extras?

BTW I think Clark is a superb bowler, but I believe Tait has a better chance of winning us a World Cup.

FFS what has it got to do with them just because he appears on your show doesnt mean he should get selected for th WC. Notice this morning in the news bar along the bottom of the screen it said that tait bowls 8 wides and claims 4 wickets against qld... since when has shuan taits bowling figures been head line news? FFS p!ss off and cool the globe or something...end of rant.

Absolutely ridiculous from Sunrise and in the words of Doug Thomas, 'what they'd know about cricket would fill a book and what they wouldn't know would fill a library'. No doubt Greg Matthews has choked on his breakfast somewhere but who cares what that idiot thinks anyway. Apparently Matthews has just predicted that Ed Cowan will make a heap of test runs - I hope for Cowans sake that that prediction is a bit more on the mark than the one he made about Mark Higgs some years back.
Was interesting to note that a few of the English were apparently happy that Tait was left out of the WSC finals, which reminded me of Steve Waugh relating in his book that the Aussies were always relieved when Devon Malcolm was left out of the English side.

Brett Lee was most effective in the first part of his career IMHO.
HIs speed scared bastmen who weren't sure how to play him.

How he's easier.
Straight up and down with little side movement or swing in most cases.

In five years, he'll be even slower.

My point?

Shane Watson = Brett Lee in five years.

Exactly. That has been my stance on Tait all summer. We have a bowler that no batsman in the world enjoys facing, and he can't make the team. If Tait isn't in the Test team next summer we aren't being serious.

The quicker we get him into the team playing as a regular, the quicker he will relax and start frightening the hell out of batsman around the world.

It's a little early to be penning Lee's epitath just yet Diss. He has improved out of sight in the one day game but I agree he does need to learn a few tricks to improve his effectiveness in Tests. Your post tends to suggest that he won't improve but I think he can...I guess whether he actually does is the main thing.

I've been impressed by Brett Lee since he led the attack with the absence of McGrath. Probably since the Ashes in 2005. His numbers aren't as impressive as a Clark, Gillespie or McGrath, but his role is different. Watching the Adelaide Test this year on a flat wicket, he came on and bowled a few yorkers and a few bouncers. A real fiery spell. It was great to watch and he was unlucky not to get some wickets. I think Shaun Tait's addition to the Test team will help Brett Lee improve his numbers. When Ponting needs someone to rattle the opposition up (which can be costly run wise) he doesn't always have to turn to Brett Lee.

As for one-day cricket, with his athleticism and big hitting to back up his bowling he is the perfect one day player. Has always looked more at home in the colours than in whites IMO. His one-day game is excellent. His Test game needs a few more wickets for a few less runs or he'll be overtaken by the emergence of Johnson, Tait etc. I think he will improve.

I don't think Lee was all that impressive in the Ashes in 2005 because he had to bowl too many overs in a role that wasn't suited to him due to Gillespie being out of form and McGrath missing a few tests, here's a quote

'rooted, bowled a trillion overs'.
